Dropped my re-hydrating yeast post boil, looking for Mangrove Jacks Bavarian Wheat Yeast M20 in the Hastings area, will travel. Don't wont to leave the wort without a yeast :(

Any help appreciated.

Thanks they have closed though. Going on a long trip to faversham

Faversham Homebrew I take it? Just been in there myself this afternoon stocking up on grains and was going to suggest it to you before reading down the posts! I live a little closer than you though, 5 miles! Good friendly shop for anyone else in the Kent area...

Sorry the actual destination was the home brew shop in farnborough, I had called the Faversham Homebrew shop and they did not have it in stock, he did sound friendly and helpful on the phone.

Sorted, how many miles was the round trip?

It was 3 hours, 160 miles aheadbutt new to home brewing (1.5 years in) not sure if the mash would have been fine till Monday evening without the yeast in it... better safe than sorry?

I had been having a wonderfully easy going home brew day, the usual 5 or so hours in, would have hated to waste the time, not so worried about the ingredients. I am glad I started early on the brew though, and not the drinking.

Back home now, the fermenter has yeast and mash in it, I can laugh about this mishap, I should start a blog to record the fails and success.

Now supping on a previous brew, a dead pony club clone. I also have an extra yeast I do not need yet and an extra all grain kit that I was not intending having but looking good for the next brew day (I could not justify the round trip for a £2.50 bag of yeast :laugh8:).

Wow, that is dedication. I'd have done the boil and then put a lid on it or into anything that could mimic a no-chill cube. It would have been fine. Some people store wort in no-chill cubes for months.

Always keep a brew log. I used to do it in on the computer but found that a physical book is so much better because you can scribble as you go. I always thought I'd remember everything to write it up later - X pints in on a brew day later... nahhhh. Then you can create a coherent version on the computer later for easy searching.

Hi Pete, glad to see a fellow hastonian on here! For future ref there is a HB shop in Maidstone which is probably closest to us.

Nice to see someone from the area on here also, think we need to move north to find more home brewers. I had called the Maidstone shop, the only wheat yeast was in kits.

I feel so silly, panic set in... I had been reading about no-chill cubes during the week should have connected the thoughts. I was thinking of them as an alternative to water waste. Had decided against the idea as I like IPAs and this article was a very interesting read http://brulosophy.com/2015/02/09/a-year-of-no-chill-lessons-from-a-secret-xbmt/ ... no reason why it would not have been fine for the recipe I was using for hefe weiss beer though... experience will teach me if reading does not :)

160 mile your a legend. I make IPAs with no chill and have had good results. Just keep your hops until after flame out and your wort has cooled to below 80 degrees. And dry hopacheers.

I'd have gone to Wilko for a Gervin and made a something or other that probably would have been fine...it's worth keeping a couple of packets in the fridge in case of emergency as you can brew a few styles with it....

A packet of generic yeast in the fridge is well worth the couple of quid just to give peace of mind!
