Hi

Does anyone have any numbers for the ammounts of calcium, magnesium, in london tap water supplyed by thames water?

I have looked at the water report and they are not listed on there own.

I sympathise, the Severn Trent reports are the same. If you find a way of getting the info for free I'd be interested.

I remember speaking to someone at Matchfest who'd managed to get hold of the water analyst at Severn Trent and extracted a whole load of info, but I can't remember who it was - DOH!

I just e-mailed my supplier [Essex and Suffolk] stating what I needed to know and for what reason and they supplied all the info I needed . The interesting thing was the guy who e-mailed me said he was a homebrewer and winemaker but had never thought about his water content

You can find some of the information in the reports, although the Mg is not included...they state all water is 'Hard'. I have just tried to guestimate the amount for the calculator.

****... I've only just realised from this post that my water report shows manganese and not magnesium.
The calcium can be worked out using the calculation on the brupacks website. All you need to know is the CaCo3... I use a palintest kit to work out the alkalinity of my water every time I brew, while it doesn't fluctuate much, it does happen from time to time. More importantly though, the figure on the water report given on their site is consistently higher than what my tests show.
There is a chance I'm mucking up the tests but I don't think so... The mean on the report is 315ppm CaCo3 but I tend to get between 220 and 260.

water reports are so up and down I use a Salifert alkalinity test kit off e-bay before every brew, to reduce my alkalinity down to 25ppm for pale ales and bitters dosing with CRS and use DLS for mineral additions and thats it. Brupacks and www.murphyandson.co.uk are the sites for me.
