just been given a kit as a gift, but i would like to have a wander around a shop & talk to the fella in charge for advice etc

any shops around North London that anyone can recommend, as i can't see any (found one in Pitfield street but it's only a web store now), i thought there'd be loads!! :wha:

thanks in advance

Not much chance in North London mate, advise wise you can get all you need and more from the folks here. From equipment, to kits, to TC, to the dark side and beyond... shiney.

Remember there is no such thing as a silly question in the search for quality cheap beer.

Ian at matchless will happily give advice and you can browse his shop at leisure same with the guys at brew (see links in the banner)

As for the kit, get it started and drink beer made by your own fair hands, seriously do it right now do not put it off

Are there really no physical home brew supply shops in London?
The ones listed here do not seem to be operational(?)

Nope
I live in North London and would love to pop in somewhere and just gas and look at all the nice stuff to buy. Winds me up every time I think of it. There was one out in Broxborne a while back, but I think that ones gone now.

I even got a distance into considering opening one myself ... but it seems that the majority of income is generated from web sales and there's plenty of competition for that!

Still a dream though.

Where is Norf London are you?

OK. Thanks.
I agree with you. There are plenty of choices when it comes to web shops, but I also like to browse around in a real shop.
Actually I am in Oslo, Norway, but I will be in London for the weekend in about two weeks. I will be travelling with my brother who is also a homebrewer, and we had hoped to bring some supplies home. We will of course take another trip once your store opens ;)

We do have a homebrew shop just outside Oslo, but everything is twice the price here ...

I think the closest one is The Art of Brewing but it's still a fair way away in Chessington.

I'll send you an invite to the grand opening!

Thanks Duncs ... she will be getting a visit in the very near future!

It's a bit far out . . . and South of the river  but there is always Cheers Homebrew in Cheam . . . From what I know it's reasonably close to Railway connections . . . And Richard will just love to talk to you . . . . for ever . . . It can be difficult to get away sometimes, even when you've just gone in for a packet of yeast.

He does have an internet presence, but refuses to do mail order as he is in the business of serving people not parcels

Ahh the human touch... I've all but forgotten what that's like. Thank god for THBF

I found this one last night, not quite a shop more of an eshop (Mods - maybe worth suggesting to them for site inclusion a small sponsorship!?!) but you can order online and pickup from the warehouse in Watford which is North West London.

and it also has an encouraging company name...just dont let the Mrs see it!!! :D
