I had a delayed start to my brew day as my Son had a game of Indoor Cricket first thing this morning. I wasn't sure I'd get round to brewing today, but I found myself getting the gear out, so brew is on :thumb:

Clibit kindly supplied a recipe for this, using what ingredients I had, but I found myself placing an order during the week and got some more Maris Otter, therefore I'm following the G Hughes grain recipe, but using the Hop Schedule suggested by Clibit!

Mash went nicely. I think I slightly exceeded my target pre boil SG of 1.038. It's looking more like 1.040-1.042, so happy with that.

Boiling away nicely now. It's amazing how the confusion and stress of a brew diminishes after you've done it a few times (I better not get too cocky )

Agree with this. Brewed a Christmassy Brown Ale today, indoors rather than out because of the rain, and it was a much smoother and less stressful experience than the outdoor brews that I've been doing this year.
Even the boil helped to clean the utility room walls - the room looks freshly decorated, so brownie points won as well from swmbo.
Looking forward to sampling some in about four weeks!

Took a sample this morning. Down to 1.009 and clear as a bell!! That's gone a bit lower than I expected, with an ABV of 4.7%. Will be bottled at the weekend and hoping it will be up to scratch for Christmas time.

The sample tasted fantastic; like a proper old school beer!
