I can't seem to download it. I'm on Firefox, win7, when I click CD&DVD, it just gives the instructions to burn as a ISO, but no download starts. :wha:

EDIT :-Just got up so think I'm still in dozy mode

Ignore me. Had another look and have to sign up

OK what's the wireless showing as in the network manger (the icon on the task bar) does it see your wireless network? If not do you know your wireless SID? & password for it?

As to user & pass which screen was that on? Remember usernames are CaPs SensItiVe on Linux.

In network manger...it's blacked out..and no it does not see my wifi.
We're on BT so is my SID the Wifi network name?? and for password that would be the wireless key yes??

With the dual boot I got to about the 3 or 4 screen...you set your time first..then keyboard on screen 2..then screen 3 you put in name and make your password..this is where it won't continue..the button stays gray and says "no go bro"..

Ok if the wifi is blacked out then it doesn't know about your wifi card.

As to the user/pass if this is the install part (I assume the same as Mint here) then is there no error message on screen anywhere?

Got as far as it seeing my wifi dongle, suse is quite different from Mint, but couldn't see any networks after scanning.

Will have a play with it another day

Once one of you get this distro running, could you post a screen shot of the desktop. I want to have a look to see if the environment is running as expected.

Do you guys like the idea of a Home Brew focused Linux distribution? If so, I can open a wiki project for it and we can get this going in a very real way

I like it, can you post a pic of the dekstop so I can see it please?

I think one of the things I am very interested in is the QBrew software. It is not yet as good as Beer Smith, but I think if the community of brewer geeks get involved, we can make a really awesome open source brewing software based on QBrew.

Ok, maybe I am getting ahead of myself. I think we also need a new thread to discuss this in detail.

If none of you have objections. I would like to lead this project. That is not to say I am the boss and I make all the decisions, just I help provide a framework for the community to develop the OS, the software packages, testing etc... Sort of Project Manager

I used qbrew yesterday for the first time, I was impressed, there is some missing features, but still very good.

Just checked out the qbrew website, it's seems that he hasn't done any development since 2008. Could do with someone to give the prject some momentum :thumb: This should defiantly have it's own thread.

What features did you think were missing?

Erm, being able to add a boil time for misc items, and also weight for them too. A automatic boil timer, telling you when to add hops etc, mash timer too. Calculations for fermentables not from grain, like honey etc

Now keep in mind that I love techie things...but don't always fully understand them right at the off...I've got Qbrew, now that you've added these timer/calculators..will they work in the Win 7 version??? as I'm still having big problems with Linux...(not had time over the weekend) think I'll download & burn a new CD ..as when I run from the CD I done first, nothing will open now.
I get the desktop but can't use anything....only happened since I tried to load Linux as a dual boot and it stuck.

Ps...just had a look at Qbrew and can't see "Boil" in misc....so I think I've got to download a new Qbrew...so that what you've added will work yes???? :wha:

They are suggestions for new features, not yet implemented :D

Yeah, suggestions. I take it you think they are good ideas hairy? I wish I had the skills to add them myself.

Providing someone builds a windows version, it shouldn't matter which version you use.

Just because you have problems with one flavour of Linux, it doesn't mean another one won't work. I've had opensuse completly refuse to install, but ubuntu was fine

Ah dam, I managed to click to a link and lost a long post. Oh well, lets write it again. I have been thinking, and I think the earlier idea of having a maintained set of files rather than a Linux distro is a much better idea. Why? Well I think Ubuntu makes a much better service maintainer than I ever could dream of. So where does that leave us:

1) Files - We have a wiki style section we collect together all the software and info files in one place. These can be stand alone downloads, or if we like, we can also package them together into zip files every so often so people can download everything in one go.

2) Windows, OS-X, Linux - We make everything 100% available to all platforms. That means we put files into PDF format to make them universally readable, and offer software versions for every OS. For example, three download options for QBrew.

3) The look and feel - Maintaining Linux would be hard, but we can still push our branding! We a theme pack for each OS so if people want they can have a home brew themes OS. I can produce the Windows and Ubuntu one, but dont have a mac, so someone else will have to make the OS-X one.

4) QBrew - I think this has one hell of a lot of potential since it is open source and free. I have spoken with the developer and he is happy to work with us. If we as a community can help scope out the features it needs then we could make it into a VERY good piece of software that every brewer may own.

5) The Recipie Book - We have hundreds of recipies on this forum, it wouldnt take too long to put them all together into one 'recipie book'. What's more, this could be formatted to be included inside QBrew. When somone downloads QBrew they would not only have the software which contains all the features we think is needed to brew, but would contain our recipies to get brewing strait away!

6) Other stuff - beer style guides, how to brew guides, brew sheets etc...

What do you all think?

Great..I'll tag along with you guys if I may... :thumb: I have no idea about adding stuff to any program... :wha: but If I can suggest a bigger list of malts...like there is on Hopville it's great to have a go at recipes with all the fermentables-hops-yeast that is on there.

I think this news its own thread, or threads... I start one for QBrew and we go from there.
