Ah dam, I managed to click to a link and lost a long post. Oh well, lets write it again. I have been thinking, and I think the earlier idea of having a maintained set of files rather than a Linux distro is a much better idea. Why? Well I think Ubuntu makes a much better service maintainer than I ever could dream of. So where does that leave us:
1) Files - We have a wiki style section we collect together all the software and info files in one place. These can be stand alone downloads, or if we like, we can also package them together into zip files every so often so people can download everything in one go.
2) Windows, OS-X, Linux - We make everything 100% available to all platforms. That means we put files into PDF format to make them universally readable, and offer software versions for every OS. For example, three download options for QBrew.
3) The look and feel - Maintaining Linux would be hard, but we can still push our branding! We a theme pack for each OS so if people want they can have a home brew themes OS. I can produce the Windows and Ubuntu one, but dont have a mac, so someone else will have to make the OS-X one.
4) QBrew - I think this has one hell of a lot of potential since it is open source and free. I have spoken with the developer and he is happy to work with us. If we as a community can help scope out the features it needs then we could make it into a VERY good piece of software that every brewer may own.
5) The Recipie Book - We have hundreds of recipies on this forum, it wouldnt take too long to put them all together into one 'recipie book'. What's more, this could be formatted to be included inside QBrew. When somone downloads QBrew they would not only have the software which contains all the features we think is needed to brew, but would contain our recipies to get brewing strait away!
6) Other stuff - beer style guides, how to brew guides, brew sheets etc...
What do you all think?
