Hi all,

Looking to brew something with my 'leftover' ingredients fairly shortly. I'd like to do a real light, hoppy, face-twisting beer but have only got Fuggles and Goldings left in stock at the moment. Has anyone had success making a really nice hoppy beer with these? I'm not feeling hopeful, so would I be better off getting in some Cascade to do the bulk of the work?

Pale ales have been made with just fuggles and goldings for the best part of 200 years so why are tehy not going to work for you.

personally I would aim to get half my bittering from the fuggles boiled for 90 minutes, and then really hop Bomb it at 15 minutes to get teh remaining 50% Bittering with the goldings for a really big hop hit . . . but you will use a lot of hops doing that.

Hi Adam,
This is my house beer, Fuggelite, I cant get enough of it but I use First Gold for bittering, that would not be too important, I tend to add more Fuggles now when I start chilling.

Thanks for the replies, guys! For a 5gal brew, assuming I use only Fuggles and Goldings, what sort of amount of hops would allow me to achieve the maximum bittering and flavour?

How much of each hop do you have . . . and what is the %Alpha on the packet?

Try this, you may need to sdjust slightly for the pellet and alpha diferences, 39 IBU is about right for me in this beer but it's a personal thing and up to you really
