I've just by chance had to go under the table where my cider is maturing in its keg, which was racked on Sunday night. I found a floor wet with cider and a slow but steady drip from the tap. The tap was obviously turned fully to the "off" position. However, it seems that moving it slightly back so its perpendicular to the outlet stops the leak (does that make sense). Was i being dumb or am i right for assuming that turning the tap fully off would be better than having to pull the tap back a little from the full off position? I must have lost a good 1/2 pint to this drip. Not too happy right now.

if you're talking the young's plastic pressure barrels... then yes, 90 degrees is fully off... there's a hole in the spindle of the tap that is perpendicular to the tap handle, this hole goes all the way through the spindle thingy (technical term  ) and it what the beer passes through when the hole of the spindle alligns with the tube from the barrel.... if you were able to spin the handle through 360 degrees, you would actually have two fully open and two fully closed positions..

does that make sense? cos i'm not sure even i understand that myself

mine only has one whole in the tap, well two if you count in and out.

It could be the tap is slightly worn best get a new one to be safe.

Stew you are maikng my head hurt!

Stew is right :thumb:
If it's one of these taps

Then turning it past 90 degrees will cause a leak :(

Tubby, that looks like the one. I've checked it today and no leaks so that must have been the problem.

good stuff :thumb: a problem shared is a problem solved and all that jazz
