I've finally sourced and sorted my equipment for AG but just wanted to do one last quick kit before the transition and before i move house in two weeks time. I have chosen to do my 4th Design a brew as their great and so simple to prepare. I also took photos this time as i know everyone loves a few piccies. I've gone for a Bellycoat Bishop which comprises of:

2 x Medium base 3 tins
4 x Crushed Crystal grain teabags
2 x Crushed Amber Malt grain teabags
1 x Chocolate grain teabag
1 x Challenger hop teabag
1 x Goldings hop teabag

I made it up in the usual desired way, but left the teabags soaking for 30mins instead of 20mins. Had some fun preparing it all, esp, with a burst teabag, but hey these things are sent to test us. Finally made the kit up as normal and added the hop teabags to the FV to infuse during the ferment!!

Looks great Rob - how do these compare with other kits or extract brews?

see you on the dark side :D

Good luck with the moves ......

and the move to 'the dark side' :thumb:

I was impressed with my wheat beer . . . until the visit of the vinegar fly made its presence known. . . . Last 10 bottles went down the sink yesterday. . . . But a step up from the 'standard' kits . . . no THT . . . no fermentation problems . . . no funny tastes. . . AG is infinitely more configurable, but Design a Beer Kits are worth playing with if you want to take your kit brewing further.

Thanks guys. Well I've done 10 kits this year including the last four being design a brew. I was going to start AG after we'd moved house, I've sold 3 times this year, the first two fell through with one thing or another :(

The DAB concept makes a much better beer than any of the other kits I have made, and the DABs get better the more grain teabags you add. Nothing is set in stone just like AG so add what you like, make up your own recipies, or follow one of the provided recipies, or tweak a provided recipe. The only difference to a std kit is simmering the teabags for 20mins at 66oC which isn't rocket science. I don't know why you don't hear of many more kit makers on here dabbling with DABs?

At the end of the day £7.99 a tin And you need two, plus 60p each grain teabag, £1 per hop tea bag, plus the DAB yeast. So depending on your preference it will be cheaper that your STD premium ale kit which is normally £20ish, or just a little extra if you want to improve the brew further.

I recommend them, hope more kit brewers try them

Rob :)

I fully agree Mr F. I'm just drinking the Cornish Ale, have the Belgium Bimbo conditioning and did one tonight I've called Two and Two Ale;

2 x medium base 30 EBU 40 EBC
2 x cara malt 30 EBC
2 x challenger hops

Like you Mr F, this will probably be my last one before going AG. Trouble is there are so many recipes I want to do I'm not sure what to do first, although I am leaning towards a Bathams Bitter clone from GW, seems quite straight forward.

Good luck :drink:
