How long can I keep some freshly made wort in a FRIDGE ( for use with yeast starters etc )

and is it better to keep it in bulk or can I fill some 500 ml PET bottles

nah I like mine to cool within 25 mins lol

Its the few extra litres I make accidentally... when I cant get anymore in the fermenter, seems a waste to tip it away. If I could keep it for a month in the fridge....unfortunately we eat too much and all the freezers are full...

I heard a brewing network podcast about this a while ago. I think they call it "canning", even though they use mason jars? Anyway, I think it's doable, you just have to sterilise (beyond sanitise) your containers... maybe boil some jars and add boiling wort into them.

I freeze large batches of 3-4L which i run off from the end of the mash (what I don't need usually). Not the highest ABV but then you only need the yeast to multiply not produce alcohol. As I said i freeze it and when I am ready I just boil it up for 10 minutes then cool and use.

It wouldn't last long in a fridge.

How about adding it to 500ml PET's

Boil up the surplus on the hob and pour it into the PET's still boiling like you would the chill cubes.

Then squeeze the PET to romove all the air and invert a few times, this will sterilise the inside completely.

This would then (IMO) keep for a very long time in the fridge!!!

From what I've heard this isn't "sterile" enough - boiling will kill living things but leave behind spores and stuff which turn back into wild yeast and bacteria (can you tell I'm not a biologist??!). A pressure cooker would probably do it, but don't know if PET bottles would survive this?

That said I reckon it's worth a go, if piddle is just going to chuck out the spare wort anyway.

If thats the case how do people get away with storing Cubes full of wort for months?
