Ok if not from boots I have seen them in Boyes behind the tills. Styptic only sting if you cut your self but do stop any bleed quickly you have tried to remove your face then it's not going to help . I get ny pencils, brush and soap from savers s they are cheaper .
I got a parker 22 ( butterfly type) off Amazon for less then 20 as it is ment to be a little heavier

I've seen the Parkers, do you rate yours? I was a little worried when I saw that they were Indian, some stuff out of India is OK, but if it's **** it is really, REALLY, ****...

I was planning not to remove my face, but it's a definite risk :(

also, savers??

Parker razors are a bit hit and miss for quality control I believe, not all have the same amount of blade exposure on each side.

OK, I'm seeing a few PArkers razors that look to be what I want, I might give them a punt :)

I found out we have a Savers near me off that website, but never heard of them before, so live and learn :)

Is there no savers in Newport? Got them in Swansea, Bridgend and Cardiff. It's basically a pound land version of boots (think that explains it).

Looked in savers and yet again just blades no razors.

Been looking on eBay but not sure on the quality of the cheaper options. Not sure I want to spend big on something I may not use that much (I have a beard but do shave my neck area).

Jeltz should be able to point you in the right direction on other butterflys on the market

OK, I looked for Jeltz and safety razors via Google and found lots of stuff, but none of it related to butterfly, or twist to open safety razors :) So, who / what is Jeltz? :)

Ahem  Personally if you want a TTO I'd try to get hold of a vintage gillette on ebay otherwise I'd stick to the 2 or 3 piece ones. To be fair I've not tried a Parker, I've always been put off by reports of variable quality.

I agree with Jeltz, if you really want a Twist To Open, then a vintage Gillette is really your only option if you want a good example, the Parker's etc... have a less than excellent reputation.

The modern 2 piece and 3 piece razor are quite good, some are excellent if you are prepared to splash the cash, an iKon Slant is excellent, but probably not best for a new shaver.

Right, I have a couple of vintage Gillettes on watch on eBay, I'll seee what they go for...

I'm not sure about the 3 piece razors, I've got a mental image of the head unscrewing while I'm trying to shave and the blade coming loose...

My Dad used to have a TTO, I think it was a gillette, if not it would have been a Wilkinson sword one as there weren't many other types about 40 years ago :)

I do sort of like the idea of using a razor as old as I am as well.

Sorry about missing your name in the thread

I'm quietly excited about a spot in eBay, a Gillette TTO razor that is the spitting image of the one I remember my Dad using 40+ years ago, light blue rubbery handle and chrome or zinc plated head. It looks nearly new and there are lots of photos, only a fiver so far, but seeing a couple of similar items in completed listings I doubt it's going to sell for anywhere near that :( The plus side being that if I don't enjoy using the thing I can sell it on for what it costs me :D

I'm after a 1962 Gillette Slim TTO with a silver handle. . . My mum bought my dad one for a wedding present in 1962 . . . Dads no longer with us now, but it is the razor I remember him using

TTO's are a draw because they are cool but I can assure you that there is more likelihood that the silo doors will come loose than a 3 piece unscrewing in use, as in I've had the former once and the latter never

But then, later, I shall be using a CJB kamasori with the a Feather Super Pro blade which is about the sharpest thing I have ever experienced

Which model of TTO was it that unscrewed itself in use?

Is there a definite 'trend' towards this with some makes, or are all makes as likely to open in use? I don't recall my Dad having problems with his is why I ask.

Aleman

Lots of 1961 FatBoys on eBay, but this is the only slim I can find, sadly it's an early 1962, so not 'your' year :(

It was a vintage gillette I can't remember which model, I just remember thinking this is a bit aggressive, had a look and the doors were loose.

A number people report that the doors on a TTO can come loose, for me the biggest issue with them is that between uses you should loosen the doors so as not to put strain on the mechanism. This means you have to remember to tighten them up again before you shave which you can easily forget to do when you are half asleep.

Personally I prefer a 3 piece razor, a Gillette new open comb is my weapon of choice, coupled with a heavier stainless steel handle. I have never had a 3 piece come loose.

Well, I won an old, as in 1970 vintage, gillette TTO on eBay, ordered an assortment of blades and hope to be using the thing this weekend for trials.

The razor cost me under £6 including postage, I might have got a bargain as similar razors from the same era have been going for three times that, 4 to 5 times that if they had the case with them :)

On the other hand, it could be worn out and I didn't spot the wear in the photos, guess I'll know when it arrives :D

Make sure you sanitise it if it's been used ;)

I bought a Merkur with a badger brush and a few sets of Merkur blades. Cost a small ransom, but I enjoy using it!
