Well mines arrived, I'm going out tonight and am questioning the wisdom of taking it for a test drive before going out in public.

Hopefully I don't flay my face to bad

If you have time for it run yourself a good hot bath. Turn the bathroom extractor off, shut the window and get that bathroom good and steamy. Take your time in the bath getting plenty of water up and over your face for a good 15 - 20 mins.

Chuck your brush in the water 5 - 10 mins before you plan to begin along with your razor. It will get everything nicely soaked and warmed up.

Grab your mirror and dip that in the water too.... hot mirror will not steam up.

Lather up and take your time. Keep your face wet. No water and soap on a bit of skin = no razor. That will minimise the burn.

Let the weight of the razor do the work. Dont press hard. Straight lines. Multiple passes equal burn so try and keep it to once with, once across and once against the grain.

Rinse with the coldest water you can bear and if poss plunge your entire face into the basin of cold. Rub your alum stick over and enjoy the mild tingle/sting depending on whether you went abit heavy or not!

Pat dry. Moisturise then splash on your favorite aftershave. I got really keen and have made my own Bay Rum which is lovely. :)

If you cant shave in the bath then run a basin of hot water while you run your bath. Brush and razor in. Enjoy your bath making sure you keep wetting your face. Jump out, towel up and shave at the sink using same technique. Keep rinsing the razor between passes as normal. dont forget to spin the razor round to the other blade between passes too to even out the use of your blade.

The whole bath/shave thing turns into a real Zen experinece for me now.... I used to hate baths but now really appreciate the peace, escapism and focus of the experience :)

Try and relax too!! Nothing more likely to cause cuts than tension in your arms, hands fingers etc :)

Hells bells I have been missing out, I see why the ladies spend so long arsing around in the bathroom now with mud things and what have you.
The luxury that my face has gone through is incredible, got to say that the lathering process was pretty fun... Obviously I had to see how far I could foam it up.

Only nicked myself once, those sytpic pens or whatever they are called have a little bit of a sting to them, I guess it makes you learn not to cut yourself.
I think I could get a closer shave but for now I will manage witg a damn good shave and a non cut throat.

Sounds like you hit the spot Sam! :thumb:

My bath is running. Yeast pitched, fermenter in brew frdge all tucked up. Just the boiler to put away. SWMBO still out playing netball.

Time to relax :D

You wont be going back to a cartridge razor any time soon . :thumb:

This is a whole new world to me; perhaps you gentlemen should consider constructive beard growing, i got used to mine really really quick

i had a full beard for a few years but chopped it this summer as it was to warm

Well this has opened my eyes a bit, always used disposable/cartridge razors. I have a beard but do shave/tidy around the neck area.

Where is the best place to get a cheap starter kit? Want to give this a try and see if it's better and cheaper than the way I do it now.

Have a look at connaught shaving. No connection just a happy customer.

Smashing little business to deal with :)

I would love to shave this way, just think I would be walking around with lots of bits of tissue paper on my face.

Have faith Dennis!
Lots of water, soap and a bit of practice and it becomes a great experience. And more importantly it saves money which can then be spent on brewing! ;)

Think I would have more faith if my face was a bit more even. Always seem to have the odd spot or lump.

First few times it all gets smoothed/hacked off :D

No seriously... Your skin really does get used to it. I'm only a few months in myself but my skin is already much better for it.

I was taking to my dad when my new blades arrived. It's 30 plus years since he had used a de . But always used the cheap bic to trim around his beard . So I sent him home with my Wilkinson starter handle and few of my blades . He is 62 so your never to old to shave properly
