Hopefully I don't flay my face to bad
If you have time for it run yourself a good hot bath. Turn the bathroom extractor off, shut the window and get that bathroom good and steamy. Take your time in the bath getting plenty of water up and over your face for a good 15 - 20 mins.
Chuck your brush in the water 5 - 10 mins before you plan to begin along with your razor. It will get everything nicely soaked and warmed up.
Grab your mirror and dip that in the water too.... hot mirror will not steam up.
Lather up and take your time. Keep your face wet. No water and soap on a bit of skin = no razor. That will minimise the burn.
Let the weight of the razor do the work. Dont press hard. Straight lines. Multiple passes equal burn so try and keep it to once with, once across and once against the grain.
Rinse with the coldest water you can bear and if poss plunge your entire face into the basin of cold. Rub your alum stick over and enjoy the mild tingle/sting depending on whether you went abit heavy or not!
Pat dry. Moisturise then splash on your favorite aftershave. I got really keen and have made my own Bay Rum which is lovely. :)
If you cant shave in the bath then run a basin of hot water while you run your bath. Brush and razor in. Enjoy your bath making sure you keep wetting your face. Jump out, towel up and shave at the sink using same technique. Keep rinsing the razor between passes as normal. dont forget to spin the razor round to the other blade between passes too to even out the use of your blade.
The whole bath/shave thing turns into a real Zen experinece for me now.... I used to hate baths but now really appreciate the peace, escapism and focus of the experience :)
Try and relax too!! Nothing more likely to cause cuts than tension in your arms, hands fingers etc :)
