Just ordered my DE razor

Everything is personal taste. I would however save at least 1 blade to try when you have been DE shaving for 6 months. Some blades I initially didn't like I find fine now that my technique is good.

My preferred blades are Gillette super thin and Wilkinson Swords however I'll probably buy some of the ones I linked to above as I found them to be fine and at that price it would be rude not to.

Are they similar to the Wilkinson sword ones then? At that price there great.

Just been doing some reading, they are listed as super stainless which get good reviews but the picture shows just stainless which don't get a good review.
I think I'll go with a sample pack and go from there :thumb:

They seem to get good reviews Sam, will have to wait for some more money to get some and a sample pack.

Without reading too much of thread..... What is a DE razor?

BB :? :? :?

Old style razor, double edged.

Depending on your age it's either the razor your dad used when you were a kid, or the razor you stopped using around 30 years ago when disposables and cartridges became the thing to use :)

I doubt you're young enough for it to be the razor your grandfather chucked out :p :)

If you used to have 'a good one' you're going to regret binning it when you see what they are fetching on the bay now
Thanks', remember going to the shop for my dad on a Friday to buy 1 blade... :D

A double edge safety razor, I'm surprised you don't know as the blades are very cheap  (200 for <£6)

LoL, too true.. :thumb:
Can't believe I've been conditioned into paying for Mach 3...

Just got the de89 through the post and been told its going away for Santa :hmm: came with derby blades so there's another to try along with a small tube of proraso cream.

I've found I really get on with the Astra Superior Platinum, and they last all week, so at £9.90 for 100 off the bay that's 2 years shaving for under a tenner.

@ BB

I used to use mach three razors and got a DE razor a few weeks back simply to find out if it was any good as an alternate, mainly because it was supposed to be cheaper than a 4 pack of mach 3s for a year.

I've now got 4 DE razors, 2 Gillette Slim adjustables, a Gillette Black Beauty (in bits, a project) and my original Gillette slim twist, total spend a little under £50....

I've also got 'a few' packs of blades from sample packs I've bought, around another £20 spent

Then there is the box of soaps on the way to me, another £12.....

So, this is going to save me money then??

TBF, if I'd stopped at the £5 slim twist and bought 100 Derby blades for a tenner then I'd have been shaving for 2 years for around £20 including a couple of Palmolive soap sticks (£0.50 each) and a Wilkinson Sword best bristle brush for £3.20

Sadly, as with brewing, shaving has shiny stuff, and I fell for it :D

Definitely going to try the astra plats but I'll have to wait until theres a bit of money spare, hopefully I'll get on with them :thumb:

PM me your address and I'll post you a couple of Astra SPs, I've had a pack in each of variety packs I've ordered so I can spare two :)

Aye, offer still stands :)

i ordered some super-max stainless i have used them before and had gotten 4-5 before i had to replace the blade but the new ones im only getting 2 maybe 3 if im lucky the only thing i have changed is that i now shave at night as i dont fancy trying to shave at 4am after very little sleep. i know they are cheap but losing 2 shaves is not very good in my book. they look the same as the ones iv had in the past. the only think i have seen is that they tarnish after the first shave.

anyone else noticed a drop in quality with the super-max

Were they super Max super stainless last time as they look very similar but reading reviews there's a big difference in quality.

I tried a derby for the first time tonight and its the first I've threw away after the first shave. Not close and my neck was red roar.

both the same blue and orange packaging

iv ordered some astra and sharks to try

I didn't like the super max blades at all, took both of the ones I tried out mid shave and fitted an Astra SP to finish the shave.

I'm loving the rapira blades I'm trying at the moment, not as sharp as the Astra SP, but very smooth and only need two passes to get a reasonable shave, very little polishing after. Only had two shaves off the blade so far, so no ide if it will make the week out or not.

I intend to try the rapira swedish supersteel next, supposded to be even better :)
