holly smoke,

I do like my rolling boil, looked back olde emails thinking a spare element or two might be a good idea
I use http://www.heatingelementcompany.co.uk/default.asp?buy=231

I bought 2 for 45 inc vat & delivery in 2011, they are 65 each now, wow-ouch-

I guess that's why Dr.Who never eats can't bare to pay the price in the next time zone !

Just got an email, my Volt and Amp Meters have been dispatched. :thumb:

I was looking at having a single meter with a dual display (Volts/Amps) but haven't made my mind-up yet as there are so many to choose from on FleaBay.

Which did you settle with?

That the route I was planning to take, but then I saw these and liked the ice blue displays and the price was good:

The only down side is that they are from China and they seem to take ages to arrive!!

Hi All, over the last week a few more parts have turned up:)

I got my PowerCon 32A power input, very impressed with this and it should handle all the power I will need.

Jay

I have decided to replace the NEMA Recepticles with a suitable, easier to source connector, I went with these PowerCons they are rated at 240v 20A so are more then suitable.
They will be used on the Heating Elements and the Solar Pumps:)

The XLR chassis mounts also turned up yesterday:)

I have also ordered my timer and am also still waiting for my Amp and Volt Meters to arrive.

Got home from work today and found out that my Volt and Amp Meters have arrived:)
My control panel switches also turned up, I will post up some pics when the camera has charged.

Jay

Hi All, progress has been slow what with Christmas, work and 3 young children.... But I have been plugging away:)

I have made most of the required holes in the front of the control panel, I have included a hole for an extra PID incase I decide to go RIMS at a later date or if I decide on temperature controlled fermentation, just gives me more options and makes the panel more future proof:)

Jay

Hi All, abit more progress was made today:)

Here I have marked out the hole that is needed on top of the control panel for the heat sink.

After about 30 mins with the trusty Dremel the hole was cut:)

Just waiting now for my Tap and Die set to arrive so that I can attach the SSR's to the heat sink.

So all in all not a great deal of progress.... But progress none the less.

Jay

Looks like good progress to me. Mine got packed away and hasn't reappeared yet. But I was doing it in the kitchen and OH needed the space for trivial things such as cooking xmas dinner.

Here are the SSR's waiting to be attached to the heat sink:)

Hopefully my tap and die set will arrive tomorrow.

The rest of the Panel LEDS and siren have also arrived along with the Amp and Volt meters:)

The control panel selector switches also turned up

And last but by no means least, the Sestos Timer has also arrived:)

Hi Jay, I gather, looking at the row of four SSRs, that you will be controlling all four heating elements through the control panel (2xHLT & 2xCopper)?

Hi Jay, where did you get the powercons from and how much do they cost?

Thanks :)

Hello mate, the PowerCons were brought through eBay

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200989767399? ... 1439.l2649

The 32 Amp male was about £16.00, the female was £8.00

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370942444459? ... 1439.l2649

The 16 Amp males were £5.00 each

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370940270696? ... 1439.l2649

The females were £9.00 each.

Hello mate, the plan for the elements is 2 x 2.4kw ish in the boiler using 1 PID and 2 SSR's to control 1 element, 2 x 2.4kw ish elements in the HLT using 1 PID and 2 SSR's to control 1 of the elements, 1 PID will be used to monitor the Mash Tun temp and the last PID will be a spare incase I switch to RIMS or want a controlled temp fermentor.

Yes all elements will be controlled through the control panel, the second elements on the boiler and HLT will be controlled via adjustable element controls.

Using this setup it will be possible to run the whole brewery from my standard house sockets as only 2 elements will ever be on at any 1 time (on separate ring mains) plus I will also be able to transport the whole rig to friends house to brew there if ever needed to.

Hope all of the above makes sense, any questions just ask:)
