Time to resurrect this thread I think. 30° here today and it's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow. At least post-covid I can choose which days I commute into London on the train so I'm staying put until later in the week.

I was actually quite pleased to be in the office today (air conditioning) but not looking forward to the journey home as always seem to get delays on the railway during heatwaves. But working from home the rest of the week which should be fun with 30°C heat.

I remember hot days and unbearable stuffy meetings in the office - we had no air conditioning because it was the NHS.

In contrast now I’ve retired I’m sitting in my garden on a nice comfy sofa under a gazebo. I’ve got an electric fan blowing on me and I’m drinking an ice-cold tonic water and lime.

Very comfortable while waiting for the bar to open. 😎

I don't mind the heat, except for at night when it's too hot. But I can take up to the high 30s comfortably. My wife, on the other hand, is Scottish and shuts down anywhere above 24 degrees.

Anything above 20c is too much for me.

I've worked from home since around 2016 and by the time it got to 2018 I decided I really needed air conditioning in my home office. After seeing the installation prices and being a practical kind of chap, I just put myself through the FGAS certification programme, gained a Category 1 licence and acquired all the equipment (mostly second hand) to legally install my own unit. I worked out that, if I then resold all the install equipment, it would ultimately work out cheaper that paying somebody else to supply and fit!

As it is, I kept the equipment and have since installed at least another 5 units for friends and family - and the units also provide a very cheap source of heat in the winter.

You need aircon in Tyneside???? I thought it was still glaciated up there and that you hardy chaps kept warm by putting on a string vest in mid-winter. :laugh8:

You’ll love it whatever the weather! I gave all that up a few years ago and now enjoy a more relaxed pace…and a few more beers 😉

Good luck to you though🥵

PS I did hear that beer is a great recovery drink 🤔

It doesn't help that you are sat over the engine, betty swallocks and all that. :laugh8:
I did hear that one day CT picked up (in his lorry) this beautiful young female hitch hiker

After they had been driving for about half an hour the young lady (who had been admiring CT's good looks) said - hey CT I have something between my legs that is moist, warm, lovely and you would like the taste

So CT said "Oh no, you haven't been sitting on my Yorkie bar have you?"

Yep it's been good knowing you 😵

In all seriousness I've just started the the build up to half marathon fitness for a race or two or three (TBD) in September and really struggling to know when to go out for runs. Even if I got up at 5am it would still be too hot 🥵

Drink plenty, take some electrolyte drink / gels, and try to stay cool. Heat exhaustion is never good. Good luck!

Brewing suspended until next Tuesday. The forecast changes from day to day so it's hard to know what to do. A couple of days ago they were forecasting 45C at the weekend followed by 25 on Monday- a bit unlikely without some cloud cover, I would have thought. It's already 30+ on the terrace! Probably a bit of a mistake making the terrace with slate slabs, but WTF! The last three fermentations I've done, I've managed to keep down to 22C max, but they've all finished within 3 days and now they're clear enough to bottle. Three different yeasts, Wyeast Scottish, CML Four and some monster harvested from a bottle of St Austell P J. I could dig out some saison or Opshaug, I supposed, but frankly can't be R-sed. This is definitely drinking time and not brewing time.

Question: What's the attraction of barbecues in this weather?

The annual 1-2 weeks of hot weather has arrived 😁

Soon to be replaced with, "summer is rubbish this year".

To be honest I don't enjoy it but I am glad that we have the climate we have in the UK where most of the time is rarely ever too hot or too cold but somewhere nicely in the middle.

I made a rare trip into the office today for various reasons and I must say the air conditioning is glorious 😋

Yeah, that’s warm. I think even kveik would get a sweat on!

Well you're cooking outside so not warming up you house any further. We tend to have meat + salad so there's only one hot element, and if you are barbecuing properly you shouldn't need to interact with it too much, i.e. put meat on, shut lid, leave until cooked.

Plus you can sit around and drink cooling beer outside whilst monitoring its progress.
