Is this yeast?

Having a bottle of Sierra Nevada PA and it says it's 'naturally conditioned". So does that mean bottle conditioned rather than force carbed? If so is this splodge in the bottom of the bottle yeast? If so, is it one that's worth growing to use in an APA?

It's yeast yeah. I believe they either centrifuge/filter slightly, so as to leave only enough yeast in the bottle to carb up, or completely filter and add a small amount of fresh yeast at bottling.

It's called Chico, but is available as US-05, WLP001 and WY1056. I'd imagine you'd need a few bottles, or lots of step-ups from 1 - so may not really be worth it as it's such a widely available yeast.

Ah, so it's just US05? I've got some in the fridge anyway, so I'll not bother then.

I must be learning something though, in that I even thought to check for anything like that.! :thumb:
