The US model of politics is totally f**ked and I don't know why we are so obsessed with reporting it. The danger is that our system is moving the same way.

We do not want a trade deal with Trumps USA which would dismantle the NHS. I do however think Trump will win. I think the pollsters will not sample Hicksville residents again.
The USA spends more than two and a half times Britain per capita on health care.

Mainly due to higher prices - higher drug prices, higher salaries for doctors and nurses, higher hospital administration costs and higher prices for many medical services.
The cost of a 100% privatised health care system. Lots of profits to be made in sick people

What point are you making? Do you want the NHS removed? About 5 million people per year are bankrupted by medical bills. How many just die of curable illnesses due to having no insurance.

The point is that our perception of the American health service is distorted. The poorest have free health care; Medicare/Obamacare liabilities are now 32 trillion dollars. The ones really punished are the lower middle class who had their insurance premiums increased to fund Obamacare. America is broke.
We spend 155 billion pounds in Britain on health care. How much should we spend 200 billion, 250, before it bankrupts us?

We should spend enough to make it a first class service. Use France and Germany as models and we won't go bust if we tax the dodgers and increase the higher rate of tax to fund it.

You make it sound like the poor in the US have an equivalent of a free at the point of entry NHS like we have here. Whilst I have no experience of the US system I certainly dont think this is the case

Then you are wrong. I don't want to drag this off topic, but the 'poor' have always benefitted from Medicare / Medicaid and now Obamacare. It's the middle classes who gave been screwed over.

Controversial opinion - both systems that make massive use of private provision of public funded health, e.g. privatising the NHS. Interesting. Could work, can't see the Guardianistas going for it.

I see the "let the poor die because the middle classes are suffering having to fund their care!" folks have arrived then. Yeah, this is why I didn't ask for access to the hidden forum, thought I could avoid reading such open jealousy of people with so little.

Nobody, absolutely NOBODY on this thread said such things. Zero people. None.

I, and another, simply pointed out that the common myth that America's car crash health system leaves the poor without care is a misconception, it's actually the middle class / middle earners.

At no point did anyone say what you are suggesting. Get a grip.
