Climate change is always in the news and its always doom and gloom well forget about climate change this will finish us off long before climate change does -
As more bacteria become resistant to antibiotics millions are going to die and its a little late to tell doctors to stop dishing them out like smarties as the damage has already been done.

Each year in the U.S. at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. At least 23,000 people die annually as a direct result of these infections. Many more people die from complications of antibiotic-resistant infections.

The current human population is roughly ten times the long term carrying capacity of its locality. Try as I might, it is hard to forget that ghastly arithmetic and the inescapable factual consequences. However hard you try, there are no other species to blame and no way back from the immediate horror of over population.

I do prefer to dwell, at present, on getting my broken left proximate humerus back into shape for the next few beers, and hope that I will get to drink the said beers.

Had very good results from US hops in the last two brews - Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra. Totally amazing beers @ roughly 120g to 150g of hops per 25L.
Others planned are the usual Stouts and Porters, as well as the Pale Ales with the Euro hops like Huell Melon, Hallertau Blanc and Bavarian Mandarina.

Just one more summer should see a further venture into heat tolerant Belgian beers, with perhaps a couple of Saisons.

I have no desire to outlive the forthcoming apocalypse, as it would be so much worse than death itself, just a curious longing to be able to drink my beers, one at a time, for as long as I can brew them.

They've taken loads of money and developed loads of drugs. The problem is that there has been no monetary incentive to develop antibiotics, that's been one of the big issues. The other problem is the general population demanding antibiotics any time they have a viral throat infection.

I find it amazing that climate change is discussed nearly every day on the news yet the outrage of the drug companies taking OUR money and not developing new antibiotics when they have known for many years bacteria are becoming resistant to today's antibiotics is rarely mentioned.

There's no easy way to broach the depopulation of the planet. War/famine/disease will be the usual culprits if we can't solve it ourselves. Global warming? - This is guaranteed to kill the planet as the sun expands in the future... It all depends what timescales you're tuned into..

How much money does Big Pharma make from the thousands of drugs used to treat complications of cancer, and the ones that can delay the inevitable for a few months? A cure would pretty much wipe all that out. Makes me laugh when dentists endorse the latest toothpaste (again) which prevents caries. Are they really trying to put themselves out of work? No, just the ones in the ads who've done very well out of talking cobblers. As for bacterial resistance to antibiotics in the era of climate change ( lol ), I'm sure I read an article about exactly that recently. Give it time anyroad; these ingenious desperados will latch on to it if I'm mistaken, and haven't already done so.

Have you ever thought that maybe the planet ISN'T overpopulated, and that the problem is one of poor resource management instead? There are more than enough resources to go around, in fact there is a surplus been produced. Problem is, our resource management is top heavy, with a system of distribution based on wealth, rather than need. So we have people with more than they should ever have, polluting more than they ever should, on one hand, whilst on the other you have people scraping a living off the land on the other.

We don't need to be looking into ways to reduce the planets population (but those who feel this way are welcome to leave any time they wish, voluntary of course...), but rather into how we use our planets resources, and how we distribute these. Sadly this will probably not happen before we destroy ourselves one way or another with our own greed and refusal to adapt or change, and our willingness to act like sheep feeding the mouths of the wealthy whilst believing everything they drip feed us in their privately owned so called news papers...

Oh and totally on topic, as they own big pharma AND are the real cause of climate change. Just easier to try to get us to blame ourselves for everything, whilst they carry on making profit at our expense, for no real purpose beyond numbers on a screen and a false feeling of superiority when they wake up in the morning.

Hungary tries for baby boom with tax breaks and loan forgiveness

Hungarian women with four children or more will be exempted for life from paying income tax, the prime minister has said, unveiling plans designed to boost the number of babies being born.

It was a way of defending Hungary's future without depending on immigration, Viktor Orban said.

While Mr Orban was delivering his state of the nation address, the latest demonstrations were being held in Budapest against his government's policies.

About 2,000 people gathered in front of his office, while others blocked one of the main bridges across the Danube river.

Correspondents say the biggest applause during Mr Orban's speech was for his announcement of a seven-point plan to increase the birth rate.

• State support for those buying seven-seat vehicles

We have people starving in one country while in another food is being thrown away - that's criminal.

Why don't they take all the Eastern Europeans that we've been saddled with? That'd be theirs and our problem solved in one fell swoop. Anyways in keeping with the thread title, at my age my own 'end' is certainly nigh, and the least of my worries is bloody climate change and other potty doomsday fantasies. And no, I'm not in the least bit concerned for my kid and his kids etc etc. They'll work it out for themselves.
