hi all, im just getting into kegging my homebrew and i know it sounds like a stupid question but. do i put my beer straight into the corny from my fermenter or do i secondary ferment and then put it in the corny, and if i put it straight from the fermenter do i add finings. sorry im a newbie with kegging

There's no one right answer here. I often go straight from the FV into the corny. Sometimes, I'll go to a secondary for some bulk aging/conditioning/fining and then go to the corny. It really depends on what you want to do.

thanks for the reply i think im going to try straight into the corny, if i carbonated my beer and left it a week do u think that would be drinkable. i have made a few all grain brews and they have been ales and they have been great however id like to make a nice fizzy lager

I tried to carbonate a lager in a corny at garage temp and it wasn't very successful . I am drinking my Irish stout after two weeks under moderate pressure and it's spot on. I believe from this that if you want fizzy lager you need to have the keg cold to allow the absorption.

Then again I am only 6 kits in and could be wrong.

thanks for the reply, do u think if i put my corny in the chest freezer for a couple of hours and then carbonated it, that it may be successful

I chill mine down to around 3C in the fridge and then hit it with 30psi for 36 hours. That works perfect for me. YMMV.

Lagers require long fermentation/maturation times, you can't make them quickly. Ales are a different story, the two are very different subjects :thumb:

I found that you need to be below 8
For carbonation to take place.
My carbonates as it is pushed out of a keg
With co2.
also don't bother with corneys. I fill two 11g kegs.
Finished one brew of lager on the 24th with 12g for about £12.
It's lovely to and really bubbly.

As Vossy said lager is about a lot more than just using lager malt.
I've put Aleman's Effin Erdinger (weissbeer) clone into a corny and force carbed by putting the corny in a fridge and pressuring to 25 psi for 3 days, worked great and was fully carbonated
