make sure you have a decent thermometer. I switched to a digital one to get more rapid readouts...so take multiple readings once strike water and grain is mixed to make sure an even temperature through the tun.

I agree on the lots of questions thing.
Just mashing has opened up a whole new set of questions.

Just don't worry. Make a simple plan and make a brew. You will learn loads by doing your first brew. It won't be perfect but you will get beer and it will be nice, and you will realise things and be much clearer the second time you brew. The first time I did AG I was pretty clueless but the first sip of the beer I made was a revelation - it was fantastic is spite of my ignorance.

There may be someone near you who you could visit to brew with, or could come and brew at yours first time.

I reckon i'm going for it this weekend.
It's unlikely to be ready for christmas, but i might just get a sip in the new year.

If it means squat I have been doing full size BIAB volumes and my start water has been around 32.5-34L depending on the grain bill.

23 +
1 liter per kilo of grain used
+ around 5 liters in total for boil off / cooldown evap and trub / hob absorption.

Why not do a smaller batch to begin with?

As i'm note sure if a 30L boiler would be large enough, i'm going to attempt a 3 or 4 gallon brew for my first one.
