I made an extremly detailed video on how to brew a 25% sugar wash
If anyone would like me to post a link please leave a comment.
I have been brewing for 30+ years. This is the best wash I ever made.

We've had a couple of threads on sugar washes to day. After some discussion between the mods, the sugar wash bit isnt illegal (and therefore against forum rules). You're simply making a high alcohol (13% or so) fermented sugar solution. It's the bit that comes after that is illegal (and therefore against forum rules), using a still to make the sugar wash stronger

There are several different high alcohol/turbo yeasts available and they have been discussed here many times but never seem to catch on and become popular.

If you use YouTube you can embed the video in your post here!
If they copy the address of the YouTube from the top of the page and paste in a post, it will show/play here.

Not sure of this information, but chose a YouTube to show you.

A sugar wash definitely has a place on the Forum. athumb..

I've never dared to try and make the 25% ABV that Alcotec promise with some of their Turbo Yeasts, so what I do is:
  • Add 8kg of sugar to 25 litres of warm water (which gives roughly 20% ABV).
  • Ferment it at 21*C in the Brew Fridge for a week.
  • De-gas the brew, stir in 250g of activated carbon and leave it for another two days.
  • De-gas the brew a second time, mix in a packet of Alcotec Finings and then drop the temperature to 10*C for a further two days.
  • After two days it is normally crystal clear, in which case I rack off the brew into DJ's and let it stand for another period of time. (This depends on how soon I need it.)
I finally mix the clear +/-20% ABV product with a Teisseire syrup "to taste".

I often use Cassis, Strawberry or Peach as SWMBO loves a "Hot Toddy" (*) before bedtime and all of these flavours hit the spot.

A
"Hot Toddy" in this case being:
  • 50% of Syrup flavoured drink,
  • 50% boiling water.
This results in a +/-8% ABV Hot Toddy.

Enjoy! athumb..
