While searching for something completely else I found a wine kit in the back of a cupboard. It is a California Connoisseur Merlot kit bought around ten years ago and I'm wondering if it's still worth starting going? The grape concentrate still looks to be the correct colour but the package of yeast EC-1118 is probably dead now. There is also a complete child's chemistry set including sachets of bentonite, potassium sorbate, potassium metabisulphite, kieselsol, oak bark and chitosan which I will probably discard.
On reflection, there's nothing to be lost by trying the original yeast, and if it doesn't work try something else. A free demijohn of Merlot is not to be sniffed at these days.
Your comments and experience are valued, as always.
Cheers, Hugh
