i always wondered about the yeast
in the fv when it starts to foam up and there is yeast on the underside of the lid
should you scrap it off and mix it in to the beer

No. Just let it settle back.
However, you can set aside some wort in the fridge and then a few days after pitching, pull it out then, with a sterilized spoon, scoop some of the foam out and pitch it to the wort. This will prepare a very good starter.

This is known as the krausen. As JB says just leave it to settle back into the wort. The Krausen is super vital and you can harvest it by a method known as top cropping (but really only if their's a huge krausen)

the foaming as gone down but there is a lot of yeast stuck to the underside of the lid
this is the stuff I was asking about should I mix it back into the wort
