hello everyone i done my very first batch last night, i done everything right except i added suger after i mixed the can of coopers english bitter with boiling water then i added the cold water then the suger, instead of mixing the suger in with the bitter and boiling water, will this be alright (and yes i put the yeast in last) and give it a good mix temp around 23, it,s just that its been over 15 hours yet and no sign of fementation, any advic please as im brand spanking new to this. thank you for helping :drink: .

As long as the sugar in dissolved I'm sure it will be fine.
If you are not convinced the sugar is dissolved, sterilise a long 'spoon' and gently stir the bottom till sugar dissolved.

You do not want to add oxygen to the brew after about 18 hrs so just stir gently.
And STERILISE the stirrer.

I think that the sugar will be dissolved by itself.

Finally, do not worry, it will be fine :thumb:

I am no expert, so the opinion above is more likely to be correct than mine, but i was under the impression that at 18 hours it was still ok, and potentially beneficial, to add oxygen at this stage.

I think your brew will be fine.

ill keep my fingers crossed.
I've has a couple of brews that haven't started after 30 hours and I added everything in the correct order, if it hasn't started tomorrow, but i'm sure it will, give it a gentle stir with a sterile spoon agitating the bottom where the yeast will be and see what happens, if nothing after that add a sachet of yeast with some yeast nutrient.

Good luck.

have you checked it with a hydrometer yet to see if the reading has changed? the air may be escaping through another hole in the lid so dont worry if its not bubbling, you will be fine with putting the sugar in last, aslong as its in there and dissolved. just give it 2 weeks to sit itself , the more you keep opening the lid and checking the more chance of infection, good luck with ur brew
