Is metabisulphite solution really necessary? I thought the oxygen in bleach will rapidly break down with air or sun light and simply leave sodium chloride (salt). Adding a small amount of bleach to water can make it safe for drinking, but you need to leave it in light for the oxygen to break down. People do this with clear PET bottles in places like Africa.

Yeah, as usually you're doing stuff and using it fairly quickly. And if you've ever had a run of polyphenol problems like I did** then you'll want no trace of chlorine or chloramine anywhere.
