I'm currently bound to using just a gas stove. Whilst it does the job and does (eventually) get 5gallons of wort up to boil, it takes a fair amount of time and uses loads of gas.

I've seen heat sticks and bucket heaters being used in threads from across the pond, but is there anything anyone can suggest to make it more efficient / heat the water quicker?

Do you have. Lid on it? If not, keep the lid on until it reaches boiling point. As for a stronger boil, leave the lid on partially :thumb:

I would have said use insulation, but that may not mix too well with the gas burner

Haha that's what I thought too! Fireworks in the kitchen doesn't sound great. I'm moving to a new place soon so I want to keep my options open in regards to going electric or keeping it for gas.

I hadn't had the lid on during boil, didn't realise I could use it partially on, thanks for the heads up. I'll give that a go next time.
