Hi Guys,
Been in the FV since 17:15 Thursday.

There seems to be quite a bit of condensation on the lid.
Quite a fair amount of froth along with like bits of what would look like skin? Like a beige colour (i am not great with colours so it could be cream)

Is this all normal??

Thanks
Zak

Yes, a photo would help.

However, I would say everything is normal. The frothy foam is called krausen. Krausen is the sign of an active fermentation, which consist of yeast and wort proteins. The "skin" is normal its just dead yeast cells, hop trub, and wort proteins. Eventually the krausen will fall back into the beer.

The condensation can be attributed to the difference in ambient temperature and beer temperature.

yep, sounds normal to me. I try not to worry what fermentation looks like, in fact i rarely even look at it anymore until day 7. As long as the hydrometer samples taste good then you have nothing to worry about.

Your description sounds fine. :thumb:
Here are two pics of some of mine. The second pic is a thing of beauty, this can be was it looks like at about 24hrs in, but it doesn't stay like that..

its looked similar to your first pic but not as much on top however it has now cleared quite a lot, just leaving it round the edges.

It has been fermenting approx 50hours and I have usr tested the gravity and it is showing 1.28 and tasted surprising nicer than I thought it would.

How is this coming along chaps!?????

Again thanks for your replies!!!

Zak

Be patient and leave well alone.
I usually put mine away for seven days and never look at it.

What you say sounds fine. :thumb: (Assume you mean 1.028)

same here, im happy to leave it for 3 weeks without even peeking...

+1 for that..

2weeks without looking (i can see through the fermenter and hear or see the airlock), then a week settling out, then into the corny keg
