Just been having a thought

since i started my new found hobby 6/7 weeks ago
2 lads at work have put on some TC and wine, and a bitter kit
1 neighbor has decided to brew as well, i took him to the LHBS yesterday ;)

so how many people have you introduced?

just for fun but so far i am at 3 and only the neighbor has tasted my first attempts

Same here... I get the usual:

1. It's gut rot
2. It tastes like crap
3. It's for old gits
4. More effort that its worth.

Like BB says, their loss, and more for me.. I had one friend bring a bottle of stout round,(shop bought) and I opened one of mine instead; he then said "see, thats what it should taste like !"... I had great joy in telling him ! :D

Ive introduced 2 to wine making and 2 to kit brewing the latest is going to have a bash at an AG using my kit and guidance :wha:

Plenty of “I must have a go at making some of that” after sampling a WOW without knowing what it was made from, followed by amazement at being told it was made from supermarket juices and incredulity at being told it works out well under 50p a bottle. No-one has yet bothered to have a go at making it themself though.

With my AG beers I love turning the preconceptions of “it's going to be gut-rot” or “it's going to taste like crap” into “bloody hell, that was superb” or “that's nothing like homebrew” or even a “that was probably the best beer I've ever tasted in my life”.

Tell them it works out around 30p a pint, give or take a bit, and they want to know how it's done. Tell them that a brewday takes 5-6 hours and it ain't never going to happen as long as they've got holes in their backsides, but they'll drink as much of mine as I would care to give them.

Same here, they like what I make, but why should they try when they can pop round & drink mine? ;)

I still love that reaction, people just don't believe it

Last night a couple of neighbours were out in the garden nattering, one had given me the barrel that is now my mash tun, so I wandered out with a few bottles, poured one and it was passed around :drink: the reaction was hilarious, Brad had one slug of mine, then a drink from his can of whatever and spat it out ..... "bloody 'ell thats bloody awful compared to yours" everyone else was amazed at the fact home brewed beer was actually better than the cans they were drinking :D so next time I brew, a couple of them want to come round for the day and see how it's brewed  they're in for a shock, 'cos (as we know) it's not that difficult eh

A chap at my work (who has just registered on here very recently) planted the idea in my head of brewing beers from kits.

A year on, and I've succesfully moved to AG, and having nattered on about that, he's building his first AG kit this weekend :thumb:

Between us we've managed to directly convince another work mate to brew his first kit, and have supported another work mate with help and advice on his first kit.

I willingly share out my brewed beer to mates and always get a good response, although to date it hasn't persuaded anyone to start it themselves :hmm:

In 35 years of home brewing, I have converted precisely one person into taking it up, although my next door neighbour Mark came round last Sunday to distract / watch (he used to brew kits 30 years ago and says that he's going to start again but that doesn't count).

A couple of my nephews have been around to watch with what appeared to be great interest too, but I've a sneaking feeling they were just interested in 'sampling' previous brews.

3.

A guy I used to work with.
My girlfriends sisters boy friend.
My girlfriends mum.

I started brewing 18 months ago and have helped get 3 workmates doing it since then. All are pretty shocked at the quality of the results, I think its the reputation from years ago that doesn't help.

I would never introduce anybody into brewing, this is my dark art and I'd like to keep it that way
Plus my mates can't be arsed their happy enough to drink mine

2 in 30 odd years but they never kept it up. One who I still work with did say last week he was thinking of trying again, the other one is dead so don`t think he will.

a friend of mine came to watch me bottle and put on a new kit. he is very impressed with my kit brews so far. i think he will give it a go one day.

4 people so far only been making it for 7 or 8 weeks. I work in a brewery so most think they can rely on me for answers
They are so wrong
