Hi folks,

Started a Coopers Lager kit on Thursday, and realised Friday that I haven't got any spare bottles to bottle it into once it's done. With payday being 3 weeks away, and funds being tight, I can't afford to buy new. I've got a friend of a friend saving me bottles from his pub, but I won't get enough to cover the 23L by the time it's done fermenting.

So, basically, can I keep the brew in the FV for a few more days or is this likely to do damage to the brew? Alternatively, can I transfer it to another FV for a few days?

Any advice would be appreciated :thumb:

Different trains of thought in all this but if you started it on Thursday I would be leaving it at least 10 days in the primary regardless. From there I would transfer it to a clean sterile FV, give it a week in the warm and then sit it somewhere cool until ready to bottle. A few weeks in a clean-ish secondary isn't going to cause any problems at all, keeping it cool will also help.

If you read ScottM's advice about brewing beer

viewtopic.php?f=30&t=34254

then you'll probably find the timings are perfect. After a 12-14 days (and it's stable gravity wise), then throw it into secondary for a couple of weeks. Then it'll be good to bottle.

Mine's only been in secondary for 3 days and it's already looking almost clear, but I'm going to leave it be as recommended.

And I spotted ScottM has posted above me ^^^^^^^

Itll be fine....On a side ..is the last friday of the month...29th a Bank hoilday...because if you get paid, like me, the last Fri is B?H so we get paid the Fri before (22nd)

Lucky you. I'll be paid only the day before (i.e. the last working day of the month).

Yup that's how mine works too :D

Appreciate your thoughts guys. Going to go ahead and put it into secondary after 2 weeks and await payday patiently
