Still no real sign on life in there lads, even though the temperature is up!

I'm getting worried now. Should there be a big foamy head on there now it's warmer?

The creamy yeast head (krausen) usually dies away after the 1st few days of fermentation so I wouldn't expect it to come back now. Just leave it alone and test the sg after another week, my bet is it will have dropped.

These have been sat in the barrel since the 13th of Jan!

It's still jot gotten down to 1010 from 1020. Is there any hope for these? Why isn't it fermenting down?

Hi if you put the heater nearer the bottom of the fv and at a slight angle off the horizontal, it will work better.(there designed to work this way).Try hanging it off a couple of bits of wire of different lengths, off the side of the fv (a quick pass through a flame will sterilise the wire). As heat rises the bottom layers might be colder thus slowing the yeast down. Also try stirring it daily, and a tsp of yeast nutrient might help. Ps check the temp with a thermometer as the heater can be a few degrees out from the temp on the scale thats on the side of it. Hope this helps.
