Hi I generally hardly ever use a bittering hop nowadays and use my late additions to max my hop flavours and get to my IBU especially for IPA's. Now I have done the odd hopstand before from 100c/flameout whilst cooling however I always use the no chill method now as I get good results for me but I now want to try just hopstand/whirlpool alone as I keep reading it gives a more intense flavour from the hops. I have moved my hop additions from 10 or 5 minutes in brewers friend to a whirlpool and my IBU's have gone up when I was expecting them to be lower. The brewers friend system show the hops at 10% for a whirlpool however it seems a little high to me and I will not be doing a full whirlpool as I will be have the hops in a spider and just the recirc pump on. Does anybody know what % I should set in the whirlpool to get a better idea of the IBU's as I have said it seems a little on the high side for me.
Thanks Pete
