I'm thinking of trying a Nelson's Revenge as my next attempt (done 4 extract brews so far, first 2 bad last 2 good)
so I thought I would try a kit for comparison.
I wonder if anyone knows what type of hops are used for flavour, as I am searching for a particular type of taste for my home brew. I think my tastes are going to lean towards the Citra variety as this seems to be mentioned on a lot of my favourite beers.
I picked out the NR coz it mentions something about a fruity flavour, even describes it as Dundee cake, which I thought was very descriptive.
Don't get me wrong, I am really pleased with the clean tasting brews I have produced, mainly Thanks to the advice and corrections made by you guys, I just want to tweak it now, to my own tastes, if I can.
Also, is this better bottled or in a barrel ?

Aah that old argument...

I find kegs easier and more fun to pour from, but harder to chill, so not so good in the summer. Bottles are portable and can handle higher carbonation, basically required for anything fizzier than english ale, easy to chill, but a bit of a nightmare to clean, fill and handle. I usually make 5 bottles and fill the keg. Try not to touch the bottled stuff, it will gradually mount up so you can chill them when its warm or take them to friends :-)

I'd dry hop it for a few days to be honest.

The other way to do it is with a hop tea so yes, boil them for around 15 minutes and use the resulting tea as part of your water in the FV.

Use a muslin bag for the hops though, you'll be amazed how 50 grams of hops swell up in the saucepan / stockpot if you chuck 'em in loose.

Terry.
