Well as alexander from the compare the Market adverts would say 'things have gone from worse to bad'

I'm currently living with my parents an have been homebrewing for 3 months or so. However I am now in the process of buying a house and because of 'the amount of empty bottles And the mess I have under the loft' (mums words not mine lol). I'm not allowed to make anymore hense the homebrew ban!

However because I always listen to what my mum says  Instead of getting a new kit started in the kitchen in plain sight of my mum I have been sneaking apple juice up into my dorma bedroom, sanitising the DJ in the bathroom sink and getting some different TCs on the go as she rarely goes on my bed or under the loft.

My first was a TC usig that Polish raspberry syrup, next ones goig to be apple juice with a cinnamon stick dropped in it (anyone ever done that) and I'm goin to put some honey in another just to see what difference it makes.

Just need to wait about 6 weeks then I'll have my own place to get as many brews as I like as the missus is easy going. Anyone else had to do a similar operation to keep out of trouble and any nice TC recipes would be welcome.

Simon

Lol that's funny. As I said the missus is ok with it all but my mother is not the kind of person to negotiate with. Then again most women arnt :D

I'm sure I'm going to get some grief for the last quote Lol

Amen to that! All my mother had to do was screw her mouth up like a dogs **** and i knew i was in it.

Going back to the early days of brewing when i was about 14 i managed to sneak in 8 glass demijohns and a 5 gallon plastic fermenter that i had procured from an old dear in the Trade-It. My mum went to skittles every Monday night without fail so that gave me a 4-5 hour window once a week to work in my 'base of operations'.

I had a shelving unit in the corner under a desk that she bodged up with Conti Board. Growing up she built everything out of the stuff! Wasnt a concrete jungle, more like a conti jungle. Anyway back on point. I 'rearranged' the shelves propping them up with videos for strength, and lined the whole compartment with tin foil ( i had a lamp and wanted to reflect the heat about ). Finally i covered the front with a thick curtain. My room was a hovel pit so it fitted in with the decor and never raised suspicion. :hmm:

I have a photo somewhere. If i can find it i will get it scanned and uploaded.

I managed several brews of cartoned apple juice and alcoholic squash with great secretive success. All made with bread yeast. I went for the killer and went for 10 gallons of alco-rasberry-cherryade. Managed to keep this brew going for about 4 weeks. Little did i know that every time my mum came into my dump(cough)bedroom she heard a distinct bubbling sound but couldn't pinpoint the sound.

Her suspicions were confirmed when i got absolutely ratarsed on the stuff one day and to put it lightly, the sh*t hit the fan! I stood and watched her tip the lot down the toilet and there was nothing i could do about it. Afterwards she smashed the demijohns into the wheely bin. :(

It was inevitable that i would get found out, its just i was hoping not so soon. My fault for getting pickled i guess.

Edit: Picture was nearby. This is better than my current set up of 2 plastic demijohns.

Brilliant story! When I was around the same age I considered brewing my own alcohol with orange juice. Started making provisions, but in the end chickened out as I knew my mum would go nuts if she found out. Maybe I am making up for it now, although now I have to try and keep the wife happy :|

You got my thinking though, alcoholic cherryade sounds good, might try that. How did it taste? Although I guess you were tasting it through the eyes of a 15 year old to which any booze was great.

Now that i am older and wiser I have gone down the alcoholic cherryade route once or twice again and the misses loves the stuff. Especially when i stick it in a king keg for 3 weeks to fizz up first.

Stuff tastes great BUT don't make the same mistake i did first time. DONT use any fizzys with sweeteners in such as Aspartame or Acesulfame. Once its fermented and all the sugars have gone the high volume of sweeteners make it taste literally like poison. Most fizzys nowadays do contain them though. I think the last batch i made it from was the asda Smart Price brand but dont hold me to that.

Gonna try it made with the syrup discussed in this thread http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=14965.

Should taste nice

Might try that when I have a spare demijohn.

I like the picture you added. Quite a setup you had there, looks like you were brewing enough for the whole street! Not surprised your mum wasn't too happy when she found your microbrewery.

Am just about to bottle and keg my first home brew, i used the magnum kit but being a chef i couldbt help but add some spices into the mix. I used cinamon and cloves. Not particularly strong smelling as i only used a few becuase i didnt want to ruin so much cider. Maybe some orange peel next time and some honey or maple!!!

That Story is great! How did you ever think to get involved in homebrew at such a young age. A very switched on youngster. The set up looks great! As for the syrup thread I have made a batch of this using one bottle syrup, 2 ltr apple juice and topped up to a gallon with water. It's been in a primed bottle for about 3 weeks now. I'm going to try my first tonight.

I know its been a while but how did it taste in the end? I like the idea of the apple and syrup combined, especially with fizz. Did you add any sugar or just rely on the sugars within the juice and syrup?

Ive drank almost all of them. The ones I put a sweetener in when bottled wasn't the best. The ones I just primed and bottled tasted ok nothing specials just ok. S I've got 3-4 bottled left so I'm going to try and keep them as long as possible before drinking.
