We often get new members asking advice on what and where to buy so i thought i would start this thread.

If you have a favourite Home brew Shop feel free to add it here.

I have used the home brew shop before prices are competitive and they offer free postage if you spend £72+ i don't know about the others in the list.

I have started with starter kits as @Bigdave1701 was asking about them in the introduction forum.

The malt miller is my preference when I want something out of the norm they are a little more expensive but they have an absolutely huge range so if I want not just Pilsner malt but a particular brand they are my go to. They also have a custom kit generator which is handy, also being based fairly near to me I know if I order liquid yeast it probably won’t be sat for two days in a couriers warehouse.

Crossmyloof is great for odds and ends need a sachet of yeast for a kit no problem, I also use their grain kits fairly regularly,

Geterbrewed has a good kit generator and tend to be reasonably priced but do not have the same range of hops and grain as Malt Miller, they are based in Northern Ireland and standard delivery is two days so I don’t use for liquid yeast especially in summer but a good shop overall.

I use the home brew shop. Mostly because it's a 30 minute drive & there are 2 spotless water points en route.

Another vote for Bigger Jugs I used them when I was starting out and it's decent value and the starter kits are good for entry level.

I don't have many options because so many places won't ship up to me, free shipping rules on spend don't seem to apply, or costs like £20 for shipping
So for me:
Malt Miller (shipping not as terribly priced as other places) and Crossmyloof (haven't ordered from the new owners yet, so hopefully the free shipping up to me continues because that was fab)

Are you in the Highlands? I guess the cost to the supplier has to be passed on. Maybe a surcharge and not the full cost would be a better way.

Unfortunately the surcharges couriers charge for ‘remote’ areas are ridiculous at work we occasionally send things to NHS Grampian or NHS Highlands and the surcharge we get charged when it’s deemed a remote area is about £20 a shipment (this is with DHL).

Your best bet is if it’s light enough to be sent via Royal Mail who don’t seem to charge extra.

I am fortunate to have a shop very near me, Elderberry Homebrew, so I use them whenever I can. As a smaller local shop you can't expect them to have the huge range of an large out-of-town online retailer, but I appreciate the convenience of being able to pop in on a Saturday to pick up what I need, so I'm willing to be a bit flexible over what I buy. It's also nice to go in an actual shop and have a look at the stuff and have a chat with the owner. I would be gutted if they closed.

My local one closed but they were not into AG apart from a few loose hops and grains in questionable condition.

Supported them in my kit days very well though.
