Doug Bannister, the Port of Dover’s chief executive, previously blamed French border control officials, Police aux Frontières, for failing to provide sufficient numbers to staff the passport booths – an accusation denied by the French.
Only four of nine booths for the French border controls for travellers leaving the UK were reported to have been staffed on Friday morning, which port officials say led to the backlogs.
Are you sure it was not Brexit ?According to the guardian it was a lack of staff that caused the backlog.
As I understand it (definitely not an expert) a lot of industries (travel, hospitality, etc.) are struggling for staff as they've generally relied on relatively cheap labour from EU countries. Since Brexit many of those have moved away from the UK, possibly accelerated by the pandemic lockdowns. Are you sure it was not Brexit ?
No it was definitely the guardianAre you sure it was not Brexit
Because they are the cheapest. People will rant and rave about principles, but when it comes down to it, they won't actually care what a company does if it saves them £10 on a cost of a ticket. Why are people still using P&O, by the way, after their Shocking way of treating their staff? Don't people care or had another company taken over the route?
Because most of the media and, and a large number of tory politicians, will ever admit to Brexit being a ***** idea. Just blame the French100% this. I don't know why the politicians who made those boldliesclaims aren't being called out on it in the media (or the house of commons)

The French have always hated us and now even more for Brexit... they are doing it on purpose.According to the guardian it was a lack of staff that caused the backlog.
I've talked with literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of French people, and I've never heard that point of view. I've only ever heard it from angry English people. The French have always hated us and now even more for Brexit... they are doing it on purpose.
I am glad i am not a baggage handler or on the phones at the complaints centre.Omg.. glad I'm not flying.
Are you having a laugh, @AccoBrew ? I've never seen the slightest bit of dislike, let alone hatred, against the Brits. We're welcomed with open arms here. When brexit happened, it was met with total bewilderment, not malice. Now the French understand it a bit more and they've got to know Boris, they blame the politicians rather than the people. The French, I have to say, have a very healthy distrust of politicians in general. Especially their own.The French have always hated us and now even more for Brexit... they are doing it on purpose.
