The thing that gets me is that people were told 5 years ago that Brexit would result in long queues at Dover. And now people are surprised and angry when there are long queues at Dover.
Who'd have thought leaving a free travel/trade area would result in friction travelling into that free trade/travel area?

Brexit in the main to blame and GB insisting on the border being on this side of the channel and us being classed as a third country. Visas were requested from the airline companies for foreign workers with clearance who had returned home and this was dismissed by the Transport Secretary as being the responsibility of the airlines
Total F*** up to date and will continue to hurt us all, apart from the rich who avoid paying tax like the plague for many years to come.
I can`t think of one single benefit we have from leaving the EU.
As regards the rail workers going out, I will support them and anyone else who chooses the same.
Currently we have no buses in parts of the North West as well but people will survive.

I can think of a good reason, covid my view is things would have been a lot worse had we still been a member, not saying mistakes wern't made but i believe more would have died

I've no idea if the UK insisted on passport checks being done this side of the channel. However, it makes sense. If you fail the check it is better not to let you cross the channel rather than have to send you back from Calais.

Did you need to go through passport checks when taking a ferry from England to France before Brexit?

Honestly curious what the procedures were.

And with tongue planted firmly in cheek..another thing about Brexit it was 43° here in Spain yesterday they didn't tell us about that before brexit. Didn't see that on the side of a bus. Forums here still have people who live in Spain justifying why they support leave. Doh. Ah well, in words of dad's army Fraser. "We're doomed"

Er … why?

The UK (which has the much praised NHS and according to Government was at the forefront of the vaccination numbers) was beaten in the “Deaths from Covid per 100,000 people” by many EU and other European nations!

Yes.

However, it was a cursory glance to ensure that you were who you said you were, was occasionally carried out by Check-In personnel and NEVER required stamping as you left the UK to enter (or leave) the EU.

Ok, how has that changed since Brexit.
I am an Irish citizen (still a member of the EU), honestly curious how the procedures have changed.

The French Border Control now;
  • Inspect EVERY Passport to make sure that it is;
    • A valid Passport
    • Dated correctly
    • Ensure that the photograph is valid
    • Compare the photograph with the person described
  • Stamp the Passport
These checks are required for EVERY Passport and EVERY person travelling in EVERY vehicle; which takes time!

Did the remainers or brexiters not warn that this may be a consequence of leaving a free travel area?

If only they had stuck that on the side of a bus.

Everyone who travelled to a Non-EU country by land, sea or air knew that it would happen!

However, it was not mentioned and the “Leavers” seemed to believe (or fear) whatever codswallop that the promoters of the “Leave” campaign told them!

I believe in the old saying:

“Sow the wind
and reap the whirlwind!”

We are currently reaping what we have sown, so I doubt if I will see any improvements no matter who is in government!

:hat:

The rules changed due to Brexit it wasn't a secret that we decided to let them into a couple of weeks ago, they knew how busy it was going to be last weekend they decided not to man all the booths which has been blamed for causing the problem and you think the blame lies with the people that voted Brexit aheadbutt the blame lies solely with the French for not manning the booths.

Lets go round again ringing in my ears?

Just imagine if Brexit wasn't done we wouldn't be on about massive queues and difficulty getting into Europe for holidays. Oh well it did happen so we are stuck with a broken system. Wouldn't it be nice to roll the clocks back now we know what a s##t idea it really was.
