Yes I was born near the Yarborough Club ! The Drum is still going strong. I'm a bit worried about some of the pubs Northern Brewer mentioned...Salutation... never felt safe in there :D
Biscuit Billy's is one I can't remember at all unless it went by another name. So many pubs in those days Leopard, Corporation Taps, Volunteer Inn Woolpack has just changed ( or closed can't remember) but they did good big dinners on a Saturday afternoon for market shoppers. and The Black Bull i never dared to enter and still wouldn't !

I always felt fine in the Sal, it was places like the Kings Head where it felt a bit iffy to me. I think Biscuit Billy's was actually called the St Leger tavern, the landlord used to sell broken biscuits on the market, it was on Silver st near Rotters night club - or whatever its called now. The pub next to the Gaumont is the Hallcross and used to make/sell its own beer, I think its sister pub is the Turnpike in Bawtry. Beer was pretty variable, they had a beer called Old Perpendicular that they were pressurised to change the name over for copyrigth reasons and another called Saxon's Ruin that you got a free tee shirt if you could down four pints, they had to stop as the number of prostrate bikers was embarassing.

he hee good old Donny sounds about right.
Although I can't place the HallCross or its sister pub I can't place it still being there at Bawtry. Will have to search next time in and around Bawtry

Biscuit Billy's..... pasted from pub guide Doncaster....

About St Leger Tavern

Affectionately known as Biscuit Billy's to the locals this is a lively and welcoming pub right in the heart of town and a regular stop of for those on a night out. Recently refurbished this small pub manages to mix a bit of tradition within its contemporary design.

although another post says I don't go in there one look through the window makes me cry remembering how it was....

It was a great pub with character, good beer, people playing doms but mixing with people out on the town, kind of place you could bump into your mates dad before going to pubs where the girls wear pelmets ;)

Renovation probably means it yet another O'Neils kind of clone - same as every other "character" pub. Just the same as people with face piercings to be different tend to end up being stereotypes. You can't invent character, it develops.

Hey thanks for the offer BarnsleyBrewer. I've read some of your posts and It would be nice to meet let alone upping my game somewhat :D

Piddle.

The Sal was pretty much OK and a few of us 'Rockers' went there as a place we could take a female without the spit and sawdust and still not lose our cred LOL
The Leopard is still going as far as I know and has nights for local bands to showcase.

The Woolpack is something I can tell you about and yet it ain't good. It's just now a room where the 'modern' music is played and consists of only a dance floor. I bought 2 bottles and it cost £5. I went with some younger guys who I had met at a work experience 4 week trial affair. I walked out with a half full bottle and a copper in Silver Street whipped it out my hand, so I never even got to finish it. I didn't know you couldn't carry a bottle in the street. First time I'd been to town in about 20 years, and the last :)

I walked home - got a takeaway on the way and said goodbye to the Donny 'nightlife! LOL

Northern Brewer - Yes The Hallcross of course. Spent many a night in there in the late 80's. Remember the beer well and you've reminded me of the brews too

The Hallcross - The very top of Hallgate on the left, a few 'shops' before the Gaumont Cinema and the left turn onto Thorne Rd.
