having a go at a wine the mrs will drink as she dont like my cider or ale

2x 1L welch's White grape, pear and apple juice
1x 1L smooth OJ
1X 1L pineapple juice (will add in a few days)
420g sugar(thats all i had in the house so will do)
4 teabag brew
1tsp pec
1tsp citric acid
topup with water then racked to 4.5L-5L

420g sugar + 437g in juice

sg 1.090 (13%ish) if it goes down to 1.000 using wilko wine yeast(first time)

went for the welch's as i know its not got alot of real fruit juice but it will add more flavour than just water ;)

this is my first real wow as its got OJ in it .

will post add pics if i get some

just added my cold tea, might get a lava lamp with this one

so a week on iv taken a reading of 0.998 so have now stopped it and added sweetener and glycerin(5mls) as i forgot when putting the wow on. got a about .5L of head space so will top up after i have racked off not sure to go for wgj or just water

but 12% is to strong for the mrs so my next wow will be about 6% so a grape cider

she can mix it with lemonaid when she drinks it
to make it weaker, sweeter and fizzy :thumb:

Looking at doing one of these after reading your thread chippy_tea, will get her indoors to pick what she wants when she goes shopping :D

Are you making this in a gallon DJ?

i use 5L PET water bottles with cling film with a pin prick then the cap placed back on to keep and flies out

If i am reading your OP right you have 4 litres of juice in a gallon DJ, the original wow guide suggests a litre of the main juice and a litre of either white or red grape juice, i use two litres of the main juice (unless its 100% juice then i only use one litre) and they taste really strong, i think you might find the taste really overpowering.

If she likes it try an orange or Apple based one you will love the lava lamp effect, don't fill past the beginning of the shoulder or it will escape.

Yes I think I would, saw the YouTube video, might give her a bit more chance with the tv remote as I sit in the "brew room" ( under stairs cupboard ) watching lava lamp wine

yes 4 litres of juice plus a large mug of tea(4bags) so im up to the 4.5L mark. got about 600ml head space but thats almost to the threads on the bottle. so it i lose .5L when racking i could add a litre but as i can only fit 750ml in a bottle 4.5L in 6 bottles will do

Four teabags in 4 litres.

yes 4, always use 4 in my wows and cider as there is not much tannin in tea bags . 1tsp of tannin per gallon is the norm

Moloeys WOW guide says -

"Tannin gives wine a slight bite or astringency, but use it sparingly. Grape tannin is derived from grape skins and you should use half a teaspoonful. Alternatively, make a mug of strong black tea and use that"

I have always assumed one bag in a mug was enough, (two if i forgot to make it at the start and i am in a rush) what difference does making it with 4 bags make to the taste of the wine?

It's a great plan to smooth things over with the good ladies ;) I've got 4 different WOW's on the go in the hope that Mrs Pjam likes at least one of them

edit: I too used a mug of strong tea.

im not sure as iv always used 4 on the next one i will use 2 to see if i can tell. i cant taste tea or find it to dry but i use wine sweetener.
