Hello All at Home brew forum.

Happy new year to all who read this.

I have been all grain brewing for 18 months now and by trusty electrium boiler has now given up the ghost as the boiler element can come loose regularly. i have contacted Elctrium and it is a common fault so im sending it back.

So now i want to upgrade to a boiler & HLT using a stailess steel kegs. I have found a friend who can stainless steel weld.

now i need some help with what to do and if anyof you have suggestions that i can make my boiler better.

Questions?

1) what taps should i use? i was going to use http://www.screwfix.com/prods/17293/Plumbing/Brassware/Full-Bore-Lever-Ball-Valve-22mm

2) where can i get stailess steel couplings with treads?

3) i want a temperature probe which i will drill and seal. was going to use http://www.thermometersdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Comark_1_3_4_Pocket_Dial_Thermometer.html

4) what is the best hot strainer have people have made? could i use a copper pipe with drilled holes

5)what are the best pumps to use? i was going to use totton http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Totton-GP28-1...3?pt=UK_BOI_Restaurant_RL&hash=item1c0d39bfc7

6)piping?? i was going to us http://www.screwfix.com/prods/29515/Plumbing/Flexible-Hoses/WRAS-Hose-22mm-x-3-4in-x-1500mm-x-13mm

For small home brew use you really don't need any bigger than 1/2". I think the one you've linked is 1/2", but it could be 3/4"....I'm not sure. regards ball valves why not use a stainless bv as in here
2) where can i get stailess steel couplings with treads?
see above link :thumb:

Have a quick look here
Not added to that list is the Totton GP 20/12. They can be had for around £60 and are very well regarded, I have 1, see here. If you want to pump boiling liquids then the March 809 cannot be beaten as most of the other pumps can only handle up to 85 deg c. Also see links section top left, Norman is listed :thumb:
6)piping??
Have a look here

Keep the questions coming if you need any more help :thumb:

You could have a good read through the Herms Rims and big shiny things topics too plenty of useful info in there to someone who is willing to search for it, we all have different ideas what's best.

But all have good ideas too a bit of time trolling through the posts will pay you big dividends :thumb:

As far as Hop Filters Go my Hopstopper is difficult to beat . . . You can make it fine (#40 mesh) for pellet only brews or coarser (#30 mesh) for leaf hops.

I'd go with 1/2" as well. My old kit (follow the link in my sig) uses 22mm and the new bigger kit is back to 1/2" . . It's easier and cheaper to find fittings in 1/2" ;)

yep was the 1st thing i checked out. i didnt want them to be knicked!!

thanks for all your help.

i will have a go and report back with some pictures
