Google search suggests Chitosan is a byproduct of the shellfish/food industry and
would be thrown away if not used, so quite environmentally friendly on that score.
Depends on your moral stance as to whether this is acceptable.

As the saying goes: big fish eat little fish.
What parasites do to their hosts ain't to pleasant either, but it takes humans to go to the extremes of pate de foie gras, larks tongues, shark fin soup, musk, veal, tiger genitalia, rhino horn, turning livestock into cannibals, fun fur from baby seals, vivisection and the wholesale destruction of natural habitats for short term gain, not to mention war, torture, genocide, land mines, ethnic cleansing, nuclear warfare, fragmentation bombs and so on.
But cruelty to animals starts with the whole pet culture, breeding animals to be dependent on the sentimental whims of potential owners is a reprehensible expliotative trade. My neighbour's cat comes pleading for food and attention. It was obtained for the indulgence of a child who has moved on and is no longer there and has developed diabetes from a lifetime of a diet of junk food.

What would we do with all the farm animals if we never used there products . We would have to kill them as we could not afford to feed them . Most breeds of cats and dogs could not survive in the wild . The good old pheasant and many other game birds would also be extinct in fact many threatened and endangered bird species in the developing world are dependent on human agriculture for their survival . Do we need farming in a word yes quorn taste like ****

I have it on good account that some Chilian wine producers add a horse's leg to improve their reds, literally adding body.

I've drunk Ouzo, if I'm quite honest a horse's leg sounds quite pleasant in comparison.

As for for animal rights, meh. I support medical testing. My mum is diabetic so I see it as a necessary evil. I do think cats should either be kept indoors, or put down. Sick of finding shredded bird in my garden, complete with my neighbours little darlings cat eggs.
