Hello chaps,

I'm totally addicted to home brew!!! I think its my new obsession (still have lots to learn though) Ive only been brewing for about a month and already ive brewed a super youngs brew buddy (1008) and a (a little flat) cooper real ale (think i tried to add a bit more sugar to boost strength. Im in the process of brewing a rather lovely Coopers dark (which is behaving itself in reaching 1014 today) but my nelsons revenge has been stuck on 1022 for 2 days!!! The brewing temp is about 18 degrees and it went like hell for a couple of days but seems to have finished leaving a constant reading. It has been brew  ing for 6 days now. Ive read a few links about Muntons kit sticking at 1022 but that was back in 2008. Is this still a problem? (to be honest i dont think i'll touch a muntons again as it was quite expensive) have they sorted out the yeast issue? How can i save the brew at this stage? do i need to pitch another sachet of yeast or more sugar? Do i need to get a brew belt?

I bow down to your superior knowledge and advice!!

Many thanks

Mark

First things first have you checked the accuracy of your hydrometer?
It should read 1.000 in plain water at 20C.
If your hydrometer is correct then get another packet of ale yeast and gently stir it in, trying not to splash the beer :thumb:

You could try a gentle stir, re-pitching yeast or the hardest of all give it time.

TBH though the reasons I think premier two can kits seem to stick around 1022 and one can kits don't is aeration.
With a one can kits you stir like buggery to dissolve the sugar and introduce oxygen into the mix, with two cans there's no sugar mix and maybe less aeration....just think out loud :hmm:

Thanks guys, hydrometer is working well and reading has very slowly gone to 1018. Ive repitched a youngs yeast and nothing dramatic has happened, I'll leave in the fermenter for another week or so. and see what happens...i think its frustrating that the instructions are pretty naff...i'm sure it'll taste good...time works wonders!!!!

Talk about spooky  I was going to ask the 'Forum' about a Woodfordes 'Nelsons Revenge' that stuck at 1020 for me last week! How wierd? Is it old 'Nelson' imself a tellin us summat? :hmm: Anyway, after 3 days of pretty hard bubbling it slowed and on the 6th day, so I took a reading and it was only 1020 it stayed theer for a further 2 days..I barreled it all the same. :hmm: The temp was fine and as I say it seemed to ferment ok..Is the yeast they supply in these kits ok, or should I use another type? I do like a Woodfordes and have brewed a few now with no problems.

Thanks for any help and advice.

...I thought i'd give Woodfords another go and have acquired a HeadCracker kit...has anyone brewed it and is it any good?
Cheers
