Hello from peterborough uk
Hi we'll I'm Sam not bob as name suggests lol thought it sounded better.
Just got myself a wilkos starter kit with Tom Caxton bitter tin hopefully my first attempt will go well.ive been checking out a lot of vids on you tube and all the fermenting buckets seem to have a hole for the bubbly thing on top and mine doesn't so I was wondering how much this is needed or if ill be ok with out it. Can anyone help ?

It's not really needed, and people who have them find the airlock they fit often doesn't bubble anyway, as the lid on the bucket is rarely totally airtight so the CO2 escapes some other way.
Fit the lid loosely - just to stop stuff falling in. The ferment generates CO2 which is heavier than air so lies on top of the brew as a protective blanket against infection and oxidation.
When I started I bought an all-the-gear-you-need kit and took the option of having the supplier drill and fit a grommet to the lid of the bucket. Have often wished I hadn't bothered since.
