Hi All

I'm new to the site and new to brewing. Although I'm living in Cork, Ireland for the last few years, I'm originally from Cambridge and my wife is from Yorkshire.

I took delivery of some equipment yesterday from on online supplier here in Ireland (there seems to be very few shops you can actually visit over here and unfortunately, none of them are near me). I have everything on the go already and have a ton of questions so hopefully I can learn from some of the more experienced brewers here on the forums.

Just to give you a bit more info about me and the Mrs, we've always been into food and drink but at the beginning of the year we decided to take an allotment plot and have a go at grow-yer-own. Since then we've both expanded our cooking repertoire and have made a cupboard full of pickles and chutneys (at least we know what we're giving to everyone at Christmas) along with loads of interesting meals. My wife decided she wanted to make some Parsnip wine when they're ready to pull so I thought I would give beer a try. I suppose we're sort of dipping our toes into the 'Good Life'.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning more from you all and if there's anyone on here from Co. Cork, feel free to say hi.

Hi Aaron.

Another hello from Cork. I'm based close to Blarney. Whereabouts are you? Presume you are starting off with a kit/extract, or are you jumping into all grain? There is a small brewclub based in the Fransiscal well brewpub, where we have the occasional brewday, and then tasting at a later time, so pop along to that if you feel like it, as it's a good opportunity to see all grain brewing in action, and meet some like minded people. You are probably also aware, but the Bierhaus is a good pub with a great selection of beers. Abbots alehouse also has a pretty good offlicense, and Bradleys usually has plenty of English and some Irish beers, where you can get a deal if you buy 4 or 5 bottles. All four places are 5 minutes apart from each other, so handy to check them out when you get the chance.

As you say, very few physical shops in Ireland and practically none around Cork. I haven't been there, but the health shop in Paul Street has a small stock of kits and related ingredients, so might be useful. Once the bug bites anyway, you will probably start buying in bulk or jumpin in on group buys, as they pop up now and then.

All the best, and send me a PM if you want details re the communal brewdays, or anything else Cork/Brew related.

Oh meant to say, I've recently started growing hops, so will have some spare rhizomes in the spring, so if growing is your thing, you might be interested in growing some yourself.

Cheers,
Billy.
