Head retention

Hi all,

I have been noticing in my brews that while I have no issue with carbonation and head formation, the head on my beers never stays there for very long, after the first one or two sips it's pretty much gone but the beer is still fizzy.

Does anyone have any tips on how to overcome this? I have heard that adding wheat into the grain bill is supposed to help but is there anything else I could do alongside this?

Yeah some wheat malt or even carapils can aide head retention. I think there is some proiblwm with washing up liquid in that it destroys head, but I'm sure someone else on here can help more

I've read somewhere [don't remember where] that not rinsing properly the washing detergent might affect the head retention as well. So I became paranoid with over-rinsing the boiling pot and FV :lol:
But yes, wheat and CaraPils are great for that.
 
If you were using wheat malt in a recipe, would you still use a little torrefied wheat as well, or only use torrefied in recipes that don't have any other wheat in them?
