I’m now planning a slight change in my brewing schedule in order to take advantage of the colder weather.

I’ll put my Rye IPA outside today to cold crash naturally and will replace the air lock with a CO2 balloon to allow for draw back. I’ll then keg the IPA on Monday.

Tuesday I will brew another batch of Butterfly Effect as planned.

Bottling for the Scottish Nationals will now be on Thursday. I’ll put the kegs outside on Wednesday along with the bottles and everything should be at about 1C on Thursday morning.

This of course assumes the weather forecast holds!

Don't laugh, but we've done our best to make a portable bottler 😅

Excuse the savage mess I've made in my downstairs loo.

There was an extremely short learning curve with this. By the second bottle I had it.

Nice idea! Could I just replace my tap in the refrigerator with this, is it similar to other kegerator taps on the back?

Yes you can but you have to make sure the font is high enough to accommodate your bottles underneath.

Edit: Sorry read that wrong - thought you said kegerator. Front mounted ones are ideal for replacing with these apparently.

We did that once and ended up using it for fermenting in. We're just not the handy type at all. Making a hole in that plank above was impressive for us 😅
But that's all you do with a fridge. A hoke for each tap. It really is the most simplist of jobs. Loads of help on here and TMM do a good video guide

Today I kegged my Rye IPA and so far I’m happy with it, it seems to have good flavour and aroma.

Then this afternoon I’ve prepared the water and milled the grain to brew another batch of Butterfly Effect tomorrow. Tonight the temperature is forecast to drop to -6 here so a couple of measures to prevent freezing; I’ve drained down the water supply pipe in the garden and because I brew outdoors I’ve set the timer on my boiler to come on for 15 minutes at 02:00 to make sure ice doesn’t start forming in my boiler. I’m not sure this will be necessary but I feel more comfortable.

I brewed that batch of Butterfly Effect today as planned but I don’t know what drove me to brew one of the beers that takes the longest to brew on one of the coldest days of the year!

Anyway it’s done, I’m all cleared up, and the outside pipes have been drained down to prevent freezing.

The brewday itself was uneventful hitting all the numbers on the nose and I now have 20 litres at an OG of 1050 in the fermenter.

Today I bottled some beers using my new Boel itap and sent them off to the Scottish Nationals. I’m sure the novelty will wear off after a while but here’s another couple of video of bottles filling. 😂
