Have I ruined some of this ? I bottled my lager and left it condition indoors for a fortnight. I then transfered to a fridge in the shed bout 4 days ago only to find some of the PET bottles have split, the glass ones are ok so far but all frozen solid. I have now removed them from the fridge and turned the setting down but will they blow when they come up to room temp? the pet bottles that have split have no pressure in them so should I bring them back up to room temp and try and reprime? Im tempted to drink them but theres 3 2litre bottles to get thru lol

So the beer froze? Were they split through expansion through freezing? It would be unusual for PET to split due to pressure.

HI Wez i presume they split thru freezing though funny enough none of the PET bottles are frozen only the glass bottles

:hmm: good one :wha:

You could transfer the beer carefully without splashing and add some more priming sugars are a few 'grains' of yeast per bottle to see what happens?

As for the glass - try one - once it's up to room temp :thumb:

Just like to say I had a try of one of the lagers out of a glass bottle today and cant believe how good it was, really good head nice fizz stayed till the glass was empty and tasted great, ok it was a bit hazy but im really pleased with it.

What lager kit did you use? I arent a big lager drinker but if I do have any its usually Stella as Bargain Booze usually has offers on them! I was contemplating doing a Coopers Australian Lager as my next brew (I think it's Coopers!). I would be interested to know what yours was and what others would suggest.

Well my first kit was a coopers australian lager (which was ok ) first attempt. This lager though was a special offer in wilkos at the time, they were selling a barrel some other bits and two cans all for £20. I couldnt pass it by so had it I think it was a youngs one, Ive gone a bit mad lately with the brewing, I now have a wherry kit on the go and a coopers aussie kit waiting to start, which I will as soon as I figure out the best way to go about it regarding bottles, I do have two kegs (one half full of bitter) but I prefer the glass bottle approach, its just a matter of getting enough bottles now. In time im hoping to label them as part of the hobby. Question here for anyone, Do you get more enjoyment from making your beer or from drinking it lol. Reason I ask is I very rarely drink but enjoy making it. Am I weired? pmsl

:hmm: Ok truth time, I love making beer . . . and the equipment to make it . . . but I am not a big drinker of it . . . And with an 18 gallon capacity I have beer hanging around for a long time . . . so much so that now when I keg it, I often pass a keg on to another local brewer . . . If I don't do this I often find that the last keg finds its way down the drain . . . . In fact My ideal situation would be to find three other local brewers so that I could split one of my batches 4 ways . . . So anyone local to Blackpool fancy brewing some beer ? . . . or even dropping in to keg a beer and take some home . . . PM me . . . .

Weird . . . . I don't think so . . . . it was when I was working for the Brewers Matthew Brown that I stopped drinking . . . and they brewed some pretty tasty beer.

Yeah, I think its a bit like veg growing, I have a small plot grow loads of different veg and TBH I enjoy giving it away knowing that " I grew that" . I think this is very similar.

I don't think it's weird either, as much as I like to drink beer :drink: I think I enjoy making it equally as much :D

In fact if I couldn't drink any more I think I would still brew and give it away ;)

I drink a lot of beer, but even some of mine finds its way down the drain if I get bored with it. I won't go as far as to say that I prefer brewing it to drinking it, but I'm with Tubby. If I had to stop drinking, I'd still be brewing it.
