my malt extract has not made any sound from the bubbler 4 days after fermentation began its now day 7 there is yeast/sediment floating on top and i have 1.009 on the hydrometre the instructions do not advise when to barrel off but it does say to put in a secondary vessel to remove from the sediment shall i just bung it straight in the barrel an prime or barrel it then leave it a couple of days to clear then prime it?

I would leave it until it's been in the FV for between 10 and 12 days. If you have a good siphon/racking can and are confident you won't get much sediment into your barrel then go straight for it.

I used to use a secondary container, but after listening to the brewstrong podcasts, I've switched to just using a primary unless I want to add any adjuncts like fruit to my beer. It seems like a lot of the people on here use this method as well. Hope this helps :)

i have a automatic syphonr with a cup filter on the bottom but i am dubious of the brown lumps on top the bin did have mold in it from a previous batch but i sterilized it with VWP overnight so it should have sterilized it good enough

Hmm I hope not I'm just going to wait it out a bit longer the hydrometer is in the red zone so it must be still doing something hopefully that White and brown stuff is nothing to worry about

The brown stuff is just yeast crud and is fine. The white stuff is rather worrying though. It could just be the picture. If it doesn't look like mold irl, then it may be fine.

Does the brew smell okay?

It's a white foam I have blue curtains in the room that could be giving a reflection. It smells ok nothing too tangent for alarm it is a light see through colour no bits in the sample =\
