Guinness

The cynic in me says it's an artificial scarcity for marketing purposes. Reading an article in the Telegraph, however, some pubs have switched to Murphys and have found their customers pleasantly surprised with some preferring it. I don't rate Guinness personally, it's all (extremely skillful) marketing of a very average macro beer. Much prefer Murphys in that category, and as has been said already, there are much better offerings from smaller breweries.

When I was a lad, Guinness was an acquired taste; I recall it was quite bitter and, if you weren't used to it, it had the reputation that it could give you the "threepenny bits". I don't recognise the bland, over-chilled drink that passes for draught Guinness nowadays, and yet they insist it hasn't changed. There was also a noticeable difference betwen the Guinness brewed in London (I think) and that brewed in Ireland.
Perhaps its my sense of taste that has changed, but I don't think so- a chicken phall still tastes the same as it did when i was 16!

I’ve got a few tins of Black Heart in the fridge, much prefer that. It’s got a more pronounced roasty character.

I don't like original Guinness but this stuff I could happily drink all night.
My first pint on a Friday night is usually Master Stoat, Old Peculiar, or this.

Guinness was brewed at the Park Royal brewery in North London until it was closed. Bulk Guinness was shipped from Dublin to Acton Bridge near Runcorn until that was also closed.
