Growing your own hops

Hi all,

Writing a blog post on growing hops at home, can anyone share any experience or advise or tips/tricks I could include in my blog?

Hops aren't that hard to grow.
I used to grow hops horizontally along an unused clothes line in the backyard. Some years when I felt lazy and didn't keep up with the weeding it made very little difference in the amount harvested.
One year I replaced some of the water for irrigation of some goldings hops with grapefruit juice. When I dried them I got a distinct grapefruit aroma and could taste grapefruit in the ordinary bitter I used them in.

You see them growing wild in Germany up telegraph poles etc... just dont let your dogs eat them!

Last year I pretty much ignored mine apart from providing strings for them to grow up. I plan to follow the same course this year. I did not prune the bines at all. I got a huge crop for the first year and they taste fantastic. The satisfaction you get from making beer with your own hops is immense. Don’t plant too close together you won’t know which one is which.
