Hello everyone,

I'm new to homebrewing, although i did have an unsuccessful attempt at it many moons ago, but i'm now really looking forward to learning from members on here.

I started a Wherry bitter a few weeks ago, i kegged it for secondary fermentation, and have now had it conditioning for a couple of days in the front room which is the coolest room in the house at the moment at around 21c.

Will my Wherry condition ok at this temperature, or do i need it to be a lot cooler?

Ps... I've already drew a pint from the keg, and although very cloudy and warmish it was very pleasing to the pallete. :drink:

Recommendation seems to be a week in the warm, then move somewhere cooler (if possible).

My Wherry was quite harsh after a month in the keg, but much improved when I left it alone and then tried it again after a further two months.

Thanks for your speedy reply john, so conditioning the wherry at a not so cool 21c will not have a detrimental effect on the beer.?

Cheers. :drink:

Welcome to the Forum Beginner.
Don't worry, there's nothing you can do about the temp at this time of year, 21c is fine.
Wherry is the only kit I've ever made, it takes a lot of maturing, 8 weeks +.
Patience is the hardest part, don't supp it all in QA testing!

Cheers ericstd, was a little worried that it might ruin my brew.

I'll try not to sup it all before it's matured.

Cheers dieseljockey,

I've got a Young's definative bitter that i'll be starting on as soon as i get enough bottles together.

I'm going down the bottling route for my next brew as i've only the one keg, and i'm the thinking it'll be easier to keep cool in the fridge.

greetings Smoggy,(i do hope you from on -tees),and welcome

ive just got me werry bottled last week, was worried i done it a little to early(5\6days after fermentation) but appears to be clearing ok :)

oh im a smoggy also, but migrated to geordie land many years ago
:)

Thankyou all for making me feel so welcome. :thumb:

Yes it is 'on tees' JustBri, though i'm from south of the tees originally.

My Wherry was kegged up after six days of fermentation. Before i started my brew i was confident i could wait for the beer to condition, but temptation got the better of me last night.... and i must say even at this early stage of conditioning it may of been a bit cloudy, but was still quite quaffable. :drink: :drink:

Yes, I'm afraid the only way to give your beers proper conditioning time is to brew faster than you can drink, and start another brew as soon as your FV is empty.

Don't expect too much from the Young's Definitive, it's nothing special but it's drinkable. If you can get hold of any spraymalt and use that in place of some of the sugar it will make a better brew, but then you're heading towards the Premium Kits type of price bracket, so you may as well stick to them in the first place.

Welcome to the forum

Thanks Moley and Samarith,

The youngs definitve will be going into the fv very shortly and i will be using Tate'n'Lyle as i've no spraymalt at the moment. :drink:

Samarith what you doing for your first brew?

I did a Woodfordes Wherry, it seemed a very popular kit and even the AG brewers seem to think it's a decent pint...for a kit.

I have to say last time I was brewing it was all can and kilo stuff and the Woodfordes is streets ahead of that.

Going to get a second cornie for Christmas then look at clearing some space so I have room to get a small AG setup. Next up will probably one of the 'Design a Brew' style jobs.

Small steps and I can get away with it, though my girlfriend has suggested ditching my job and trying to startup a microbrewery but I'm happier having a hobby as a hobby; not a job. Nice lottery win, larger house with outbuildings and I'd definately consider it as a keep active job. ;)

Hi everyone ,

Just a little update on my Wherry bitter. It's been conditioning in my cellar now for two weeks so tonight i thought i'd take a sample ( actually a two pint sample :drink: ) for QC purposes of course. :thumb:

It was still a little cloudy, but it went down rather well, and is far better than anything i've had from a can.

I think i'm going to quite enjoy this hobby.
