Good Evening, Flixon Breweries Here - Master Brewers of many fine, erm... tinctures. We're the brewery that beats the VAT man.
So it's been a real period of activity here. We've had Betty Firstbrew that, against all odds, against seasoned men, managed to turn us into staggering tubs of putty. We've had some advice from the greatest brewers in the World on this forum, and we've taken great steps to creating a stock in our own Devonshire Arms.
Many will be pleased to know that we've started to use the bobber thingy to take readings. The aftermath of a couple of pints of Betty Firstbrew, and it's hallucinogenic properties would've been great with an associated ABV.
We popped a few litres of Lidl apple juice into our bucket with some EC-1118 yeast. That's now bottled, it's primed, 40 no. 500ml plastic ones, it's conditioning and we've tried it today. It's more than acceptable. It doesn't seem strong enough when we tried it, but this wonder yeast just ate through all the sugar no issues whatsoever. We wish we had banged a touch more sugar in, but it's bloody tasty. We back sweetened it and this works wonders, unless you like dry cider. Search for recipe by typing 'Roddy's turbo cider' into the search box.
Purchased an auto-syphon, with bottle wand. To speed up the processing, and so that we don't get germs into God's own gift to mankind from our mouths by accident. Worth every penny. Great tool.
We've since banged in 30 bottles of Cellar 7 cabernet sauvignon, which is now in secondary fermentation vessel after just 5 days. It's absolutely doing it's job, the instructions are clear, it's easy, it's wonderfully VAT free. We've got glass bottles, a corker and corks ready. 14.7% baby. That's an Amarone.
Today, we've put in 40 pints of Wilko's Cerveza as we'll be barbecuing at the end of June. We've slightly changed the recipe, brewed slightly short (means less liquid for newbies, we only learnt that from this forum too), and used a different mixture of sugars and enhancers. We plan to learn how to dry hop next, but with some fresh lime, nobody will give a hoot after their second pint of this rocket juice.
So for now, we'll sign off, we've got a few to consume, a Bank Holiday weekend to come, excellent weather. Have a good weekend one and all.
